Planning Ahead For 2012 Classic League

I like the Option 2 with the overall prizes more spread out. But drop 9th and 10th and readjust 4th thru 8th. Means a little more reward for a top 5 finish.

4th - $7,500
5th - $5,000
6th - $3,000
7th - $2,000
8th - $1,500

I'm good with the league option that Greg outlined.

No strong opinion either way on the roster size. I would hat to see the waiver wire even thinner than it is, but the extra roster spot would be nice, too.

I don't mind one way or the other if we have 20, 19, or 18 man rosters. I like the 18. Might have to think about roster position limits with the 14 team league though. In a 12 team if half the teams take 3 QBs you are still at 30 taken. In a 14 team you are at 35. Don't think it will be a problem but you don't want someone with 5 QBs on his roster just to keep someone without one. I will think long and hard about taking 3 QBs since they are worth 6 points a TD with the extra spot. Might not ever happen but it would make for a surly thread. Treffiletti showed us you don't need a QB to win a $100,000 though:)

With your ** Both teams get $3,000 and they play in Weeks 14-16 for the additional $2,500 prize and the league title. That way 1st place wins $5,500 and 2nd place gets $3,000. So there is a chance for 2nd place to double their money, but they have to at least win h2h or total points during the regular season.

The above proposal also gives you a little something extra if you win both the record and points in the regular season which I think is great!

20 man rosters: 110% forsure!

Combined Standings: Absolutely leave them, it always gets me to sign up for a few extra teams! Add them for the Primetime too! I agree with all of this. I generally do the Primetime only but like this payout structure for the 14 team league. Also agree on $3K each to H2H and Points after week 13 if not the same team,

i think we should keep the 100,000 carrot for 1 more year. i know this thread is to find a way to raise the league champion money, but i also think we should leave that alone for 1 more year. raise the entry fee to 1,500 and put the extra 25,000 all into the championship round so that it looks something like this:

1. 100,000
2. 25,000
3.12,500
4. 7,500
5. 6,000
6. 3,000
7. 2,000
8. 1,500

you get to keep the 100,00 1st place and you close the gap a little for 2nd place. if greg and tom don't make there numbers this year. then next year you talk about revamping the whole set-up.

I agree that it's premature to abandon the $100,000 carrot. This contest has never been offered on BOTH weekends plus online. Let's not forget that the landscape has changed. The WCOFF is gone, so there are only two major players left in the market. The participation level in NFFC events is bound to go up. The 14-team Classic is still the signature achievement of the NFFC. It deserves one more year because the marketplace is uncertain. Continue to promote it, give it a shot one more year, and see if you make your number.

I know it's easy for me to sit here and say that. I'm not the one taking the financial risk. But once the 100k disappears, the participation level in the Classic will also drop and it'll never come back.

I think it makes sense this week to lay out our Classic and Primetime schedule of events even though we don't have the venues finalized yet. We still have a pretty good idea of where and when we are hosting these events in September, so look for a schedule this week so that you can plan your two weekends of fun around our drafts. I should have done that sooner, but running 50 NFBC Slow Drafts got in the way!!

I'll post that schedule this week. Sorry for the delay.

I have a novel idea -- let's take the NFFC Classic back to its roots!

Live-only draft on 1 day with simultaneous start nationwide. Just like the first couple years. NO online or telephone entries unless they need to fill the last couple of spots in the last league. Payouts in proportion to entries, if it's less it's less. People have been commenting that the Classic is more of a "niche" contest anyways. Let's make it a "live draft niche."

The Primetime can be the multi-day/multi-weekend/online offering where people can enter 5+ times and drive the numbers way up.

I think there's room for both formats in the business plan.

If given the choice, I would choose the live Classic against less people with a $25K top prize over the multi-day Primetime with a bigger carrot every time. For me, I go to Vegas every year more for the live draft experience with everyone on equal footing, as opposed to figuring out how to maximize the number of entries at all costs in order to dangle a bigger carrot.

I also want to bring this point up again one more time -- it's just a matter of time before a 1st or 2nd round pick goes out for the season on the opening Thursday night and all but eliminates 1/12 or 1/14 of the first weekend drafters. For instance, what if the Patriots opening day game was on Thursday the year Brady went down? Those owners would be crippled (as they would I agree if all drafting was before the season). However, NONE of the 2nd weekend owners would be similarly crippled, giving them a collective advantage.

On the other end of the stick, if it were a starting RB or WR that went down, the owner in the first weekend that drafted their backup in the 12th round just got a lottery ticket. So that team already has a leg up on the 2nd weekend owners. So 12 out of 14 teams in each 1st weekend league are on equal footing with 2nd weekend owners, 1 seriously crippled, and 1 with a lucky advantage. Doesn't make me that excited about drafting the 2nd weekend either. Dumb luck like that should not be allowed to be such a major factor in the outcome of a high stakes event.

Keeping the grand prize at 100,000 is my vote.
And paying only first and second places in the league chase works for me as well.
Would love a 20 man roster too.
I know all of these won't happen,but that is my vote,i sure wish this format was more popular,it's great imo.

I have never participated in any of the Main Events. I have absolutely no interest in a lottery style game.

I would love to see the 'take" for the grand prize reduced with more of the league fees available to winners of the 14 team leagues.

I haven't read the entire thread so I don't know how sentiments are running but I will be one new participant in the Main Event if the Grand Prize is reduced to $50,000.

Isn't that what you want, new participants? Of course, if you lose more than you gain the change in philosophy isn't going to be helpful, is it?
