I'm In An Open Sports 12-Team Experts Draft

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:00 am

The scoring for this doesn't apply to the NFFC since it's non-PPR but the cool feature is it has analysis of the picks from all of us after we make them. It's fun to see what everyone is thinking. I have the 10th pick (not thrilled about that spot in this scoring system) and haven't made my first pick yet. The plan is to get one round done per day so we'll be going at it for about three weeks.

Here's the link if you want to follow along. And feel free to post suggestions for what you think I should do.

With the top-tier backs already gone, no ppr, only 2 wr start and 6pts per passing TD, I'd go Andre Johnson(clearcut #1 wr this year), then Brees, then Rogers. For the second round pick, hopefully Mendenhall, Wells (I know you like him) or Deangelo will still be on the board. With 6 pts per passing TD and no ppr, that makes qb's very valuable in this league.

Even with 6 points per TD pass I can't bring myself to take a QB in the first round. I think I can get Romo, Rivers, Schaub or Brady later. With so many RBs I like off the board I'm hoping to get Mendenhall at 10. I like DeAngelo but I have some bad vibes about him so I may go with Andre Johnson if all the RBs are gone. Even in a non-PPR league, Johnson will be a strong producer. Plus, there are several solid RBs I like who should be there for me in the second round.

First 9 picks were:

1. Peterson
2. Johnson
3. Jones-Drew
4. Rice
5. Turner
6. Gore
7. Steven Jackson
8. Aaron Rodgers
9. Andre Johnson

I took Mendenhall at 10 and here's my writeup:

The 10th pick in a non-PPR league is a tough spot to be in. The elite RBs are gone and you have to question whether a stud WR is a worthy pick at this spot. I really wanted one of the Top 7 RBs on my rankings and fortunately I got one with Mendenhall (who I have ranked 7th in this format). I think Mendenhall is poised for a big season with zero meaningful competition for carries in Pittsburgh. With Ben Roethlisberger suspended for the first 4-6 games, the Steelers will lean on the running game even more, providing plenty of chances for Mendenhall to shine. I wanted to secure a top RB in the first round in this league and Mendenhall gives me that guy.

Someone agreed with me regarding qb's. Surprised ARog went ahead of Brees though. Guess Mendenhall is the way to go here. Maybe Wells or even S Greene would be good in the second if you don't like Williams or the next tier of receivers.

I predict that by August Matthews will be a consensus top 6 pick.

It's Wells or Roddy White. I'm leaning toward Wells hoping I can still get a good WR in the third. In this format, having two good RBs would be huge.

But getting a stud WR would be nice.
