This goes out to all the Gekko II owners first. I don't have some of your emails, so I'm posting here.

Hello everyone. I hope the offseason is treating everyone well.

For Year 3 of the Gekko league, I’d like to temporarily change the format to a Draft Champions format (with a twist). We will follow all of the rules in place for this years NFFC Draft Champions format. (As an FYI - one change Greg is instituting is increasing roster size to 26 players)

The twist...since we know all draft slots aren't equal, the draft order is determined by bidding your teams future points. If you are successful in securing a draft slot by bidding points, those points will be deducted from your team’s total, once at the start of the season.

This is how it would work; everyone would submit their bids to Greg. Greg will evaluate all of the bids he receives. For example, suppose the highest bid out of all 14 owners was 55 points. That owner would receive that draft slot and their season point total would begin at minus 55 (-55), instead of 0. Greg would remove that owner AND draft slot from future consideration. Greg would continue the evaluations by determining which owner bid the next highest amount (let’s say 50 points). That owner would receive that draft slot and their season point total would begin at minus 50 (-50), instead of 0. Greg continues the evaluation until all draft slots are awarded or there are no more bids to evaluate. Owners not bidding on a draft slot will receive a random draft slot from the remaining draft slots. Those teams will begin the season with 0 points (as they normally would).

Draft date – Not sure yet. Possibly thinking about Saturday, Aug 26th, Monday, Aug 28th, or Tuesday, Aug 29th at 7pm.

Entry fee – Does $250 sound good?

Teams – 14 (or 28).
If we had 28 teams (which I prefer), both drafts would be held simultaneously on mockdraftcentral. Greg would get the pool of 28 owners and randomly split them into two leagues. With that said, an owner could even purchase two teams (one in each league), if they were good enough to draft two teams at the same time. After the drafts were over, all 28 teams would be put in the same league! WOOOHOOO!! Super Satellite time!!

Prizes –
We aren’t playing for chump change here, and winning a measly $100 or $200 doesn’t do anything for me, nor should it do anything for you. With that said, let’s only pay out the top spots (no charity cases).
Based on 14 teams and a $250 entry fee…
prize pool would be $14 x $250 = $3,500 x 90% = $3,150
1st place = $2,150
2nd place = $1,000

Based on 28 teams and a $250 entry fee…
prize pool would be $28 x $250 = $7,000 x 90% = $6,300
1st place = $3,600 (throwing up $250 to win $3,600 is sweet!)
2nd place = $1,700
3rd place = $1,000

I like this. Instead of Greg randomizing the leagues though ... high bids get slotted first in either pool ... two high bids (out of 28) get draft slot one for example (assuming they are the high bid) ... all the way through the 28th highest bid.

Is there any way we can do this after the main event? I'd rather not tip my hand so close to the main event -- perhaps the day before the Thursday opener?

Whatever info people get from you ... you will get from 27 others.

It is unlikely that any of the other 27 will be in your main event (25 teams lots of elbo room).

If one is in your event ... you will get the same info from him that he did from you. If this does occure ... it is unlikely you will be in or near the same draft spot and it will be mute anyway.

It is a different type of event and will by the nature of the draft it will different from about round three or four on.

The information you pick up WILL help you in the main event against all of those who didn't draft the week before.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. You have given lots of reasons why this draft could be held before the main event (several of which I will refute), but no response as to why it can't be held after.

The biggest drawback to holding a satellite draft so close to the main event is tipping your hand. Yes, it is true that this is a different type of league, and certain positions will be taken sooner than in the main event. However, the rankings will be the same in both leagues, and that's where the problem lies. Let's say there are 3 closely matched TEs in a draft -- Gonzalez, Shockey and Heap. If in this league I grab Shockey ahead of the other two, my competition is likely to know that the same would be done in the main event.

Additionally, I believe you are grossly underestimating the chances of several people from this event being in the same main event league. I haven't run the probability model for this, but I would say there's a greater than 50% chance that it happens. Not good.

All potential WCOFF'ers would be out that close to NFL kickoff Thursday (I'll already be in Vegas...thus...drunk!)

I'd also like to get into this one if it goes $250 and 28 teams! (as well as the other one you posted without the bidding for spots)

I like the idea of doing this after the Main Event.

Since the Monday after the Main Event is Labor Day, maybe on Tuesday or Wednesday, September 5th or 6th?

Sure, if someone drafted in the draft with you ... and your were in a spot to grab one of those TE's ... and the guy was in a spot to grab a TE before you ... and he was going to grab your TE because he doesn't have an opinion on his own! You could be burn't. Maybe there is a slight posibility ... He wants a TE ... he is in a position to wait through your pick because he knows you aren't interested in the same guy he is if all of those stars alligned. I agree with you that sleepers are a concern ... but I just don't think someone who would get in a BBDS satellite ... will think he knows so much less than me ... that he will grab guys I like instead of the guys he likes.

Several being 3 or more. 28 players ... 25 leagues ... wild guess ... 30% chance this happens ... 4 - 5% chance this happens to you. This assumes a balance of LV, NY, CHI people.

With that said ... I think your concerns are completely valid (I do not want to make light of them). I am just trying to introduce another perspective. I personally think the pro's easily outweigh the cons IMHO ... I don't think guys at this level are grabbing a TE's because someone else likes them. Lets see if others weigh in on this?

PS ... I hope you sign up for this or the other BBDS DM. Your always fun to be in a league with.

i'm certainly open to doing this after NFFC weekend, much like mr moyer said on that Tuesday evening.
