There are those in the NFFC that would have you believe that season total points are values that are comparable across leagues and therefore, teams that score more points should be giving a heavy advantage in the 100K playoffs.
I contend that once you get to intra-league play, season points should not be accounted for in any manner as they are not comparable.
Those that favor more weight for regular season total points would have you believe that all the leagues are equal and that their high point totals are worthy of more consideration in the drive for 100K. One owner even has the audacity to claim that his high point total was even more impressive because he did it in the league that was proclaimed the best ever by his draft moderator.
Well, if high point totals are meaningful when comparing intra-league teams, then so are low point totals. There were 28 teams that scored less than 1400 total points. By my count, there are only 4 leagues that had more than 2 teams that score less than 1400 points. These were Chicago 3 and 4 and LV 5 and 6. These 4 leagues accounted for 14 of the 28 teams that failed to score 1400. That’s right, 50% of the worst teams can from just 25% of the leagues. Guess where the 4 highest point total teams came from:
Team New – LV 5
Route Collectors – CH 3
Big Mac Attack – LV 6
LB Big Richards – LV 6
Additionally 7 of the top 12 teams where from these same 4 leagues. Again, slightly over 50% of the highest scoring teams can from these same 25% of the leagues.
There were two leagues is which every team scored at least 1400. These were NY3 and LV2. These two leagues had only had 2 teams each in the top 50.
It is obvious from looking at the data that the leagues with the highest scoring teams tend to also have the lowest scoring teams. It is impossible to determine weather the good teams keep the low scoring teams down or weather the bad teams propped up the high scoring teams. Therefore, the regular season point totals should not carry into the intra-league playoffs. It is enough of an advantage that these teams are able to load up on good players while several teams in their leagues were asleep at the wheel.
My suggestion has nothing to do with how Lumpy’s Losers did in LV2. For all I know, I will be the high scoring team next year. This is solely based on my opinion of what is fair.
