Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
Any good reason they aren't?
If someone drops someone on Wednesday I should be able to add them on Friday. 48 hours is plenty of time for every owner to put in bids for new FAAB players. I mean, no games have been played, a guy is dropped on Wednesday and won't play until Sunday. Why are they locked, and why can we not add them?
It really doesn't make sense to me that a player is frozen and useless for the league for one week if he hasn't played yet.

I actually disagree and like how it is currently set up, although I think that one FAAB each week is enough and because of the Thursday games, that one time would have to be a Wed. Obviously, Greg and Tom can't make that change mid season but its a worthy discussion for next year...

I believe Greg & Tom wanted to keep it similar to Friday FAAB. If players are dropped on FAAB you can't pick them up for Sunday, same theory. I am fine with the way it is, but I could be persuaded to the other side.Coach JP wrote:Any good reason they aren't?

Re: Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
I also like it as is due to saving effort for those with many leagues. It already takes a fair amount of time to do all the research for Wed. But at least it's only that once per week. Friday is just in case there's a late-week injury and a last-minute replacement is needed. If we could also pickup players who were dropped on Wed., it'd be quite a bit more time and effort than now.

Re: Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
It would be a nightmare for owners to have two full FAABs including the cut players from Wednesday in Friday's pool. Not only that, why should a cut player on Wednesday be available for this weekend's games? When we just had one FAAB on Friday night, you couldn't pick up those guys on Saturday and start them on Sunday. Why should this be any different? They are cut on Wednesday and you can pick them up next Wednesday to start the following week, just like we've always had it.Coach JP wrote:Any good reason they aren't?

I can say EMPHATICALLY, we'll never do what you are suggesting. It would be a time-consuming (all consuming) nightmare of FAAB time for all owners.
We will consider two options for 2013:
1. Same setup we have this year
2. Wednesday night FAAB only for players involved in Thursday Night Game; with full FAAB on Friday
I believe those are the 2 best options going forward and they were 1 & 2 last year when we surveyed our members. We'll send a survey out with all possible rules changes for 2013 and this will be one of them on the ballot. Look for that in a few weeks and help us determine FAAB going forward.

I just don't see how it is time consuming for the league owners. I don't know how you process FAAB, but now that I read your post I assume it's all done manually, so I do see the server side of things.
At most, there are probably 15-20 players released on Wednesday night. For one of my leagues, these are the numbers:
This past Wednesday - 8 releases
Week Before - 17 releases
Week Before - 12 releases
Week Before - 13 releases
Out of all these releases, about 75% are trash players or players that were injured. Is it really that time consuming for the owners of a team to check the FAAB results page and see if there's a name that stands out to them? There's at most, 15 names to scroll over, and that should take no longer than 60 seconds. I find it hard to believe that it'd be a nightmare, as they've already scouted 98% of the free agents prior to Wednesday's FAAB.
I could see the reasoning that you used to cut players on Friday and couldn't use them, as that might help against collusion and what not.
I just don't get the time consumption part for owners. This isn't a challenge the system type post, but more hoping to be enlighted about how it's tough for owners to view 10-15 names. I have 10 teams this year, and it only took me two minutes to see a guy was cut who I desperately could use for this weekend.

Re: Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
But for each of our leagues, we'd have to go see who was dropped, then review our roster in that league to see if it's a fit. And that "review" might entail reading some extra news sites to gauge our perceived value of the new available player, as well as all of the players on our bench whom we'd considered dropping for him.
Having just performed a similar work pattern on Tues and Wed, most people would probably prefer to not repeat two days later. Yes, the number of available players is less, but for each one, the number of players on our benches is still the same as it was on Wed.

Aaaahhh, no we don't run these manually. Everything from our end is automated and takes a few minutes to run. That isn't the issue. Hell, we could run them every hour every day if needed.Coach JP wrote:I just don't see how it is time consuming for the league owners. It's the consideration for owners who don't want daily full FAABs or even twice-weekly full FAABs. Nor should we need it. Make your best bid for the players you want for this weekend and GET THEM. Players who are cut are available to be picked up next week. You have a full week to analyze their value.

Re: Wednesday Releases Should Be Available Friday
This would totally change the dynamics of Free Agency. If I cut Matt Bryant or the Eagles DST (or other above-average bye week players) to pick up a replacement for Week 7, I want a shot at reacquiring them next week. If Wednesday releases were available on Friday, the bye-week cut would likely become a thing of the past.
You think the quality of free agents is bad now? This proposal would only make it worse.

Psh, I got the guy I bid for in Cecil Shorts. Not much talent in my league, so when I saw DHB released last night my mouth salivated. Sad state when DHB gets me going.Greg Ambrosius wrote:Aaaahhh, no we don't run these manually. Everything from our end is automated and takes a few minutes to run. That isn't the issue.
