Who Made It To The Finals In Cutline Championship?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:09 am

KJ Duke has two teams in the final round of the debut NFFC Cutline Championship as he had one team that led Week 15 in points and one team that just squeezed past the Cutline by a mere 0.75 points. We now have 12 teams in the Final Round of the NFFC Cutline Championship and prize money awaits all 12 teams. First place is worth $50,000 in this contest.

Congrats also to Terry Wells, who emerged from the Wild Card Round to have a shot at the $50,000 grand prize. That's not easy to do. Here's a look at the 12 teams that emerged from the Championship Round and the teams that are still alive for good prizes in the Wild Card Round:

I didn't know there were payouts for the top 20 wildcard teams. who qualifies for the wildcard teams in week 16 ? is it all teams or just the list of 23 teams that got cut from championship round and those 65 wildcard teams ? 10k is a nice hit to be the top wildcard team this week

From the Rules, which are always handy:

Round 4: Week 15 (take each team’s weekly scoring average from Weeks 1-9, plus weekly playoff scoring average, plus your score from Week 15)

The top 11 scoring Championship bracket teams advance; the next 10 in scoring advance to the Wild Card bracket.
The top scoring (1) Wild Card team moves up to the Championship bracket; the next 10 advance in the Wild Card bracket.

Final Round: Week 16 (take each team’s weekly scoring average from Weeks 1-9, plus weekly playoff scoring average, plus your score from Week 16)

12 teams compete in the Championship bracket
20 teams compete in the Wild Card bracket

We set this up so that all of the finalists receive prize money in Week 16. In the future we can look at making sure that all teams from the Week 15 Championship Round go into the Week 16 Wild Card Round and fight for the Wild Card prize money. But this year it was set up as a cutoff of the next Top 10 teams after the Top 11 in the Championship Round going into the Wild Card Finals. Good luck to everyone in this contest and enjoy the prizes. Everyone who made it this far earned what's coming to them.

So the team that finishes as the highest wild card team in an event that costs 150 bucks to get into gets 10k and the runner up in wild card gets 4k but a team that finishes with most regular season points in classic and primetime(2 main events) with a 1600 buy in gets 1500 ??? ok, sounds good...

Yea.....that totally needs to be revamped.

Even 12th place should get $5000. I would suggest the following (assuming this will be a $100K grand prize next year....which there was talk about previously);

1st- $100,000
2nd- $25,000
3rd- $15,000
4th- $10,000
5th- $9,000
6th- $8,000
7th- $7,500
8th- $7,000
9th- $6,500
10th- $6,000
11th- $5,500
12th- $5,000

I think it is VERY important to tier EACH position to a different prize. Saying 6th-12th (for example) all get the same amount is ridiculous to me. So a team who has a far better week and finishes 6th gets the same as a team who conceivably got a ZERO for the week? I never understood the logic in "lumping" finishes with the same prize. The excitement of gaining a point or two which could mean an extra $500, $1,000, etc. is what these championship rounds should be about. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE FOR ALL THE CONTESTS....CLASSIC, PRIMETIME, CUTLINE, ETC. Giving a ton of $$ in the consolation round doesn't make sense, pay 5 places, and move on. The team who is 12th in the championship round of the Cutline should earn MORE than the winner of the consolation round (same goes for Classic and Primetime IMO).

Consolation in Classic and Primetime should be something like...

1st- Free team next year
2nd- $500
3rd- $400
4th- $300
5th- $200

Some may say....."well $200 is nothing". Well, maybe not much, but you can put that towards something next year. I mean is the team that finishes 1st in the consolation round of the Primetime better than the team who finishes 11th in the Championship round of the Primetime and gets NOTHING? I say "no way Jose!" :D .

Congrats to KJ Duke having TWO teams in the finals.....nice job! Out of curiousity....how many teams did you buy here?

KJ! How did you sit Jimmy Graham this week which resulted in you getting in? If I sat Jimmy Graham I'd get to see a 53.6 on my bench! lol! Can I borrow your crystal ball?

It's all relative no? The Cut 1st overall is "only" 50k while the Classic is 100k. Plus the contestant pool for Cut is 1800? Classic is 280? The odds are longer in the Cut getting that far.

Good Luck KJ, add another Championship to 2013

Thanks Billy, I had 14 teams, 5 won the league title, I think 4-5 more finished 2nd and in all 13 made the playoff. Total investment was $1500.

As for the prize pool, you are suggesting that this pool become like every other. Hate it. Diversity is good. There are no other flattish prize pools in high stakes except for individual leagues, and even those are under assault as guys like Mikey push the Platinum setup that gives outsized reward to 1st place only at the expense of 2nd-4th.

The FFPC has a $250,000 first prize and for second pays some sort of chicken feed, $15-20k, I think. It's ridiculous and it favors the lucky over the skilled. For what could be a trivial point difference , a $200,000 gain/loss. I love the fact that the next place down in cutline pays 50% of the spot ahead of it and I'd hate to see that "revamped" to look like every other high stakes prize pool that is more about getting a headline than having a fair pay scale. With a bigger pot to go around next season, no quarrel with your idea to differentiate 6-12, however.
