John Rundle Wins 2022 Rotowire Online & $250,000

John Rundle of Pembroke, Massachusetts won the 2022 Rotowire Online Championship and its record $250,000 grand prize in an incredibly close race. John's team finished with 697.83 points and had no players going on Monday Night, while two other teams were within 21 points with one player left on each of their teams. But as we all know, the injury to Damar Hamlin stopped the Monday Night Game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals and today the NFL decided to cancel the game and not make it up. No stats from that shortened Monday Night Game were used in the NFFC because the NFL completely cancelled that game.

John had a historic run in the Championship Round and his team deserved to win the grand prize. His Townies team finished 18.39 points ahead of Ryan Winn, while Curtis Hirsch was 20.80 points behind. Ryan had Devin Singletary left in that last game, while Curtis had James Cook left. Both players obviously scored 0 points and the standings were finalized. Ryan won $50,000, while Curtis won $20,000. Also finishing in the Top 6 were Joe Kalinowski ($15,000), Ron Stewart ($12,500) and John Riccio ($10,000).

John's Townies were led in Week 17 by Christian McCaffrey with 31.30 points and Jared Goff with 30.95 points. Other top scorers were DJ Moore with 23.70 points, Jerick McKinnon 22.60 points and Chris Godwin 22.00 points.

John qualified for the Championship Round by finishing second in his league to win $700. His team entered the Championship Round in 687th place out of 4,752 teams. But his team quickly shot to the top of the Championship Round as it scored the most points in Week 15 (209.20 points) to move into second place overall. The team moved into first place by scoring 185.75 points in Week 16 -- the 14th highest total of the week -- and had the lead heading into Week 17. The Townies then scored 162.15 points in Week 17 to hang onto the lead and to win the record $250,000 grand prize.

John Rundle is Charter Member of the NFBC as he joined our baseball contest in 2004, but he didn't first join an NFFC contest until 2007. He has continued to play both sports throughout the years and has won his share of league titles, but this is his first overall title in the NFFC. And it was a tough one to win as we finished the year with a record 4,752 teams in a record 396 leagues. There were a record 968 teams in the Championship Round. Wow, great job John.

It was a wild finish for everyone in this contest and we all wish that the Monday Night game could have finished. But we know what happened and now everyone is behind Damar Hamlin and hope for a full and speedy recovery for this young player. All signs are pointing in the right direction for Hamlin and we hope his recovery continues that way.

We will open our 2023 draft room early this year, so look for more details on that. However, we won't open the Rotowire Online Championship drafts until right after the NFL Draft is completed in late April. Look for that and be ready to compete for another $250,000 grand prize.
