Michael is a veteran player in the NFFC and NFBC and he's now a two-time national champion. He also won the 2021 NFFC Football Challenge Points national title and has won several league titles in the NFBC and NFFC.
This championship team was a $250 NFFC Online Auction Championship team that he drafted on August 21st at 10 pm ET. He built his team around Christian McCaffrey at $46 and Deebo Samuel at $24, with Amari Cooper at $20 really helping in the Championship Round. But the real bargains were Breece Hall at $14, Isiah Pacheco at $12, Rashee Rice at $3 and Brock Purdy at $1. Well done Michael.
The grand prize for the 2023 NFFC Online Auction Championship grew another $5,000 last year to $15,000 this year as we finished with a record 840 teams consisting of 70 leagues. This is the second straight year that we raised the grand prize by $5,000 and the third straight year that we maxed out on the number of available entries. We also paid the Top 15 teams overall once again.
Michael had the second-most points in his league after Week 14, but won the league title easily in the Championship Round when he scored 705.84 points. He entered the Championship Round in 32nd place overall, but he moved up to 4th place overall through Week 15 when the Cheddarheads scored 184.90 points. The Cheddarheads moved into 1st place after Week 16 when it scored 193.95 points and it maintained that lead by scoring 177.10 points in Week 17.
The Cheddarheads finished 19.64 points ahead of Robert Kruse for the title with Robert winning $3,500 for his runner-up finish. Rounding out the Top 5 were NFFC veterans Matthew Shepherd ($2,500), Roger Gonzalez ($1,500) and Mark Srebro ($1,250). A total of 173 teams competed in the Championship Round this year.
Michael was led in Week 17 by Breece Hall's 27.60 points, followed by Brock Purdy's 23.90, Houston's Defense/Special Teams at 22.0 and Darius Slayton at 20.60.
Congrats to Michael O'Brien for winning another national title. Great job everyone and congrats to everyone who won prize money this year. We'll be back in 2024 with a higher max team limit and hopefully even a bigger prize pool.
