NFFC Rules Survey Results
We sent out a link to all NFFC members last week with 12 Rules questions to help us formulate plans for the 2012 season. We received over 300 responses and the feedback was INVALUABLE. I'm very excited about the feedback we got.
We haven't decided on any rules changes yet, but I do want to share the survey results with you now. I know the survey wasn't perfect as we should have had a third option on some questions, but the feedback was still very useful and in some cases the overwhelming support for some areas will result in rules changes.
Here's the survey results and then let's have an intelligent discussion on the potential rules changes. Thanks all:
1. Would you like to see "1 Point Per Reception for Running Backs" become standard across all of our NFFC games, including the 14-team formats? If no, then you are voting for 1/2 point Per Reception for RBs in 14-team formats and PPR for RBs in 12-team formats.
Yes: 77.8%
No: 22.2%
2. Would you like to see a third team from each NFFC Primetime league advance to the Championship Round? Currently, two teams from each Primetime league advance to the Championship Round.
Yes: 65.9%
No: 34.1%
3. Would you like to see the Wild Card numbers for the Championship Round of Primetime increased from 10% to 15% of all teams?
Yes: 62.1%
No: 37.9%
4. Would you like to see individual players receive special teams points for punt and kickoff TD returns, along with rewarding the team that produced the TD? In essence, scoring for two players.
Yes: 43.1%
No: 56.9%
5. With 6 points per passing touchdown remaining in the NFFC, would you be in favor of increasing points for interceptions to -2 from -1?
Yes: 54.5%
No: 45.6%
6. Do you agree with the current format that rewards h2h and total points regular season champions with payouts after Week 13?
Yes: 88.4%
No: 11.6%
7. Would you rather have a playoff format for the NFFC Primetime in Weeks 14-16 where the third, fourth and fifth place seeds are given the chance to battle for third place prize money only? Thus rather than reward third place $700 after Week 13, three teams would battle for that prize money in Weeks 14-16.
Yes: 35.5%
No: 64.5%
8. Would you rather have a playoff format for the NFFC Primetime in Weeks 14-16 where only the third and fourth place seeds are given the chance to battle for third place prize money? In this instance two teams would battle for that prize money in Weeks 14-16.
Yes: 51.4%
No: 48.6%
9. For Draft Champions Leagues, would you like to have a Live Scoring format that allows your starting lineup to show actual point totals based on the top scores at that time for all 10 positions?
Yes: 43.5%
No: 3.4%
Not Applicable to me: 53.1%
10. Would you like an option that allows you to receive your Classic and Primetime draft slots by early August, knowing that you'd have to set your KDS preferences by then? This
would allow anyone who wanted early draft spots to all be chosen accordingly but NOT be placed into the same leagues together.
Yes: 39.7%
No: 38.0%
Not Applicable to me: 22.4%
11. Do you think you would participate if the NFFC added some side games using your Main Event rosters for optional contests like Draft Slot Challenge (yearly prizes for top teams
from each draft spot), Bracket Challenges, Weekly High Point Contests and other types of similar contests? All would be optional and participants could compete as often or as little
as they wanted.
Yes: 61.8%
No: 38.2%
12. If you play in the Classic league now or are interested in playing, would you prefer higher league prizes than the Primetime event offers if that meant less than a $100,000
grand prize? In other words, build bigger Classic league prizes ($6,000 for 1st) with possibly a slightly lower $75,000 grand prize.
Yes: 59.0%
No: 17.7%
Not applicable to me: 23.2%

I honestly don't understand the people that said no to question 10. The question was, would you like an OPTION to receive your draft slot early. Even if you yourself would never want to know, the key word was OPTION. Would it bother you that much that someone else elected to find their draft slot early even if you wanted to wait till the last week?

Not a big deal here, only 3.4%, but why would anybody vote no on #9?

YES. Here's what I took away from this survey, which again was VERY useful to us here at the NFFC:
1. Now that we are growing the NFFC Primetime, consistency in our scoring makes sense and you folks want that. I understand why and it's not easy to create two different draft plans for similar NFFC games. I know why we've had half-point per RB reception through the last 8 years, but the game is changing and we may have to change here, too. Consistency is the main thing here if we're going to continue to grow our 14-team and 12-team formats. A ruling on this to come soon.
2. I think you have spoken that adding a 3rd Primetime team to the Championship Round makes sense. I think it adds value to our contest and even with 25% of all teams making the dash for the cash I don't believe that's too much. I think this is a done deal, along with expanding the Wild Card teams higher. 15% might not be high enough, but we'll talk about that number later. Thanks for the feedback here and we're going to move forward with more teams in the Championship Round.
3. Don't worry about the 3.4%; that question was actually put in there as a trick question.
EVERYONE wants improved Live Scoring for our Draft Champions formats and it's definitely on our To-Do list for 2012. Consider it a top priority and something we'll have to do with everything we plan to offer in that format for 2012.
4. League playoff format. I think folks have spoken that they are happy with our current format. I'll review the 3rd place format, but even there we didn't have overwhelming evidence that a change is needed.
5. Early Draft Spots: I think I need to explain this better before saying this wasn't accepted. It's something we can always add later, but I still think this has potential. Again, let me explain it better later and show everyone how easily this can work, while still giving everyone what they want.
6. Side Games: Yes, yes, and yes if we can program all of this. I'm on it. Again, these will be offered with your existing Classic and Primetime teams. Draft good teams and monetize them in multiple ways. I hope we can do some of these for 2012.
7. Classic payouts. Stay tuned. I believe we should take the Classic in a slightly different direction by rewarding higher league prizes for this tough 14-team format and lowering the grand prize. Our big carrot contest can be the Primetime. Now, that doesn't mean I want to slash the heck out of the Classic grand prize because that's not the goal. We can still start at $75,000 or so and get to $100,000 with increased participation. That is the goal, but let's start with slightly higher league prizes and see what the numbers look like. I've already done that and will start a new thread shortly for the Classic. Your feedback is essential there. Thanks all.

The bottom line is that in any survey if you asked the question "do you believe the sky is above you?" you'd get 3.4% who would so NO. Again, this was a trick question to get 100% to say yes, but it didn't turn out exactly as I had planned.
But that's okay. I know how much this is needed. And as I've already stated, we plan on being the leader in Slow Drafts and the DC format with NFFC '60s and our Draft Champions Leagues, so we need improved Live Scoring if folks are going to play with us.
Don't be upset with the 3.4%; they're answering that way in every type of survey.
