UFC debut on FOX

Anyone else pumped to watch the next chapter in MMA unfold as Cain Velasquez defends his heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos? I would not be shocked if 10 years from now, the UFC finds itself 2nd only to the NFL in major american sports. If so, tonight will be a major milestone in that evolution.

Superpion,

I agree. I am a huge combat sports fan and was looking forward to this. Shame the fight was such a downer... or at least, over so fast. I was surprised they didn't have any undercard fights on the show.

Having said that.. with how the attention span of young America continues to get shorter, I would not be shocked at all to see UFC continue to gain massive momentum. Fights that are over quick likely don't bother the masses... With the way the world is changing people cannot stay engaged with something for a long time anyway...

It is one reason I worry about my personal favorite sport, baseball.

Renman,

The undercard was live on the internet and there was a fantastic 3 round fight between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson that went the distance. It would have been nice if that fight had been showcased as well but FOX wanted to televise just the one fight.

With any fight, the production has no control over how long it lasts....I thought we would have gotten 3-4 rounds out of it but no such luck.

Congrats to Junior Dos Santos on a huge win!!

Superpion,

I actually was watching the pre fight show on "Fuel tv" with glazer and guests and I could see the final moments of the Guida/Henderson fight on the screen in the arena. I agree, that should have been televised given how much they both push pace and almost never get knocked out.

But you are right, there is no control over the length of fights. In some ways, I think last night was a bad night for the fight game. You had a much hyped UFC fight end in 90 seconds... and then a boxing event that ended in controversy again.
