NFL Networks Top 100 Players Of All-Time

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:15 am

There's nothing like a "greatest ever" list to get folks talking. I've found the NFL Network's Top 100 Greatest Players list to be quite entertaining and I think it's been done very well by the NFL. I certainly don't agree completely with the order of the list, but they sure did nail the top 100 players.

In case you haven't seen the list yet, the NFL Network just unveiled the last Top 10 a few days ago. Jerry Rice was voted as the Greatest Player of all-time, ahead of Jim Brown. Do you agree? Do you agree with the Top 10 players?

Anyway, you can find the list at http://top100.nfl.com/

Here's the Top 25:

1. Jerry Rice
2. Jim Brown
3. Lawrence Taylor
4. Joe Montana
5. Walter Payton
6. Johnny Unitas
7. Reggie White
8. Peyton Manning
9. Don Hutson
10. Dick Butkus
11. Ronnie Lott
12. Anthony Munoz
13. Joe Greene
14. Sammy Baugh
15. Deacon Jones
16. Otto Graham
17. Barry Sanders
18. Ray Lewis
19. Bronko Nagurski
20. Brett Favre
21. Tom Brady
22. Gale Sayers
23. John Elway
24. John Hannah
25. Dan Marino

C'mon, let's get some thoughts on this list. Who would you put in your Top 10 of Greatest Players EVER?

I think it's interesting that the greatest debate is on who was the greatest QB of all-time. Most of us like to debate the modern QBs: Manning, Favre, Elway, Marino, etc. Well, the NFL experts picked Joe Montana, followed by Colts' QBs Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning. Pretty interesting.

Here are the Top QBs ranked from this list:

4. Joe Montana
6. Johnny Unitas
8. Peyton Manning
14. Sammy Baugh
16. Otto Graham
20. Brett Favre
21. Tom Brady
23. John Elway
25. Dan Marino
33. Sid Luckman
46. Roger Staubach
50. Terry Bradshaw
51. Bart Starr
80. Troy Aikman
81. Steve Young
83. Norm Van Brocklin
90. Kurt Warner
91. Fran Tarkenton
100. Joe Namath

Do you agree with this order?

I think they have Barry Sanders to low and the mass murderer shouldn't be listed in anything connected with human beings. I wonder where Bo Jackson could have ended up had he been a one sport player and had a 10 year career.

5 Payton This is interesting Bill. I won't criticize any player here and I certainly think Walter Payton was the toughest RB around. But I'm not sure he was the fifth best player in NFL history or the second best back ever. He was DAMN GOOD and nobody ran harder, but the second greatest ever?

Again, I'm not criticizing him. He was such a great player, such a great person and he died sooooooo young. But man, in the open field or to build a team around, OJ (before he killed someone), Sayers and Sanders were so awesome. I'm with you, I'd almost have to put them ahead of Walter.

Wow all those guys ahead of Walter? I don't remember ANY of those players ever throwing a block to spring his FB or save his QB. 10 years with over 350 touches and well over 1000 yards rushing in each of those years. 492 receptions! He even threw 8 TD passes. Heck that's more than some 1st round QB's!!! He also played on teams with NO OTHER offense weapons PERIOD!!!! I mean when you split Brian Bashnagel or Keith Ortego out wide where do you think the safeties played?
I watched that whole show for ten weeks and they said while claiming Walter Payton was the 5th greatest of all time. Probably the most complete football player ever!
Sanders was great but he never caught passes or blocked for anyone. He had too many backwards runs to really help his team that much. Gale Sayers didn't play long enough to be considered greatest ever IMO. And well Jim Brown is Jim Brown he should have been #1
And thankfully the most overrated player ever (Emmitt Smith) was put in his place

Earl Campbell should be higher than Emmitt. Deion Sanders is a better player than Ray Lewis.
