LAST BIG NFFC RULE FIX

Post by Appleman » Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:09 pm

UYT, while it sounds like a good idea and might work, the main problem is when would the "last bid" be? Would we all be slaves to our internet until the Fri FA deadline? What about those of us who work or can't get to a computer at the deadline? The blind bidding process, while not perfect, fits the NFFC.

You enter a Max bid like you do if you can't be on Ebay when the bidding closes. The computer bids for you. You put your bids in before Friday like you do now ... and the results are batch processed like they are now. No different except you can truly enter your max bid and don't waist FA $ if the other players drop out at a lower bid.

LAST BIG NFFC RULE FIX

Guys, another hijacked thread. This was supposed to be a debate about a potential new NFFC rule, not Snake vs BW LXXLV. Keep it to PMs and let the rest of us talk FF!

A more clear example

Assume (Player 1) will go for 100 - 200 (assume that's a good estimate and he does go for that range in 27 leagues). But in three leagues you know he will go for a lot more ... what would you bid?

Say you think (Player 1) is worth 850 and you really want the guy

You can bid 201 and pray you don't have the one high bidders in your league? Why bid $850 when there is a 90% chance you will get him with 201.

you can bid 850 and get him 99% of the time. Pull this trigger once and FA is basically done.

you can bid 500 and get him 95% of the time?

With max bidding you will get him for whatever it takes up to 850. The others bids go up because it's max bidding (why ebay uses it)

Say the range goes up to between 200 and 400 for the 90% group.

You can now bid 850 and get him for an average of 300 in 90% of the leagues ... you pay more ... but you WILL get him 99% of the time.

Why bid 201 and lose a guy who was worth 850 to you?

Why bid 850 and overpay by $650 for the guy 90% of the time.

It's a stupid guessing game of "WILL THE BIG BID BE IN MY LEAGUE" or not.

You should be able to get the guy for whatever it takes to get the guy (not a penny more).

All you little boys out there who are afraid to auction a guy straight up and want it to come down to who is the best guesser so they can steal a guy or laugh at an over bid by someone who wasn't afraid to bid are playing this game for the wrong reasons IMHO.

Let the highest bidder win the auction as he is the Man/Woman willing to spend the most. Not the person who is the best guesser who WILL (as I have pointed out) surely underpay for the Player.

There is no need for this to be a silent auction. It means guys WILL UNDER PAY for the players they get (it's why Ebay doesn't use this method, they use max bid bidding because it creates higher selling prices. Do you seriously think ebay is not using the most profitable method available?)

Just because this is how the NFFC set it up ... doesn't make it the best way. The reason the NFFC's product is top notch is because Greg and Tom are not afraid to innovate.
