RE: Chicago Draft After-Party
Dear Greg and Tom:
I have put together a few ideas for an “After-Party” for the Chicago drafters who are looking for something to do after the draft. I have listed 3 ideas based on what I think the group might want.
I would ask that anyone who is interested, please email me at [email protected] and put in the subject; Chicago After Party. That way I can build a list.
I need to get back to these folks early next week to be able to secure a spot.
Here are the three options and I can add more if needed:
Original Idea (#1): I work at a Restaurant/OTB in Mokena, Illinois. This location is approximately 32 miles and a 45 minute drive from Oakbrook. Not the best scenario for folks staying in Oakbrook and especially if they are not familiar with the area. This location has a few plusses:
Positive Items for #1:
o Menu – I can whip up a package that includes almost anything this group would want to eat and drink for a very reasonable price. Example: NY Strip and Shrimp, Caesar salad and dessert plus all the Bud Light or MDG drafts you can drink for maybe $35 a head?
o We can setup the back room and play poker.
o Ponies and four tvs in this room for whatever we want.
Negatives:
o Transportation – it is a little bit of a drive from Oakbrook and when folks are enjoying adult beverages, this could be a problem.
Choice #2: OTB in Oakbrook
o I met with the manager today and he was happy to reserve an area in their main bar that we could “own” for the evening. This room has numerous TVs and betting windows. He will also discount draft beers and throw in some appetizers if we eat. The menu is decent and reasonable.
o Location: 1 mile west of the Oakbrook Marriott on the same street. Very easy to get to and maybe the hotel shuttle could lend us a hand that night. (I can check into that).
o Negative: No poker
o Plus: The ponies
o Cost: would depend on each of us as we would all basically be on our own. The drafts would be $3 and maybe we could work out something else with him. I will also work on this if we decide to go this way.
o The menu is attached to this email as a pdf.
Choice #3: Champps in Lombard
o Champps is a chain and this location is about 1.5 miles from the hotel on the very same street.
o They will offer no assistance in pricing as it is a Saturday night.
o They will offer a semi-private room that we CAN play poker in. Those details would HAVE to be set prior to the evening if you know what I mean.
o We can order off of the menu and it can be found at www.champps.com
o This room will likely hold up to 60 people but only has 2 tvs in it.
o Right now it is wide open but it is first come, first served.
In closing, we have a few choices here and each has its benefits.
Choice #1 offers the most flexibility in the menu, poker environment and beverages but it is the very worst for proximity and travel ease. If the group likes this option and wants to spend a little for transportation, I can look into securing a bus/limos for the group
Choice #2 offers the best gaming/sports environment and will be priced reasonably. The only downside is no poker. Does poker matter?
Choice #3 offers good food and a private room for poker but no break on anything.
If the group wants more out of an evening, let me know and I can work that out too.
We probably need to lock something in within the next week as the 2nd is right around the corner. Ideally I would like to try and have a head count by next Wednesday.
I would ask that if anyone is interested, they need to email me all of their info to [email protected] :
o Name
o Email
o Cell Phone
o Staying at the Hotel or Local
If we get 10 or 20 or 50 folks, any of these sites will work.

Rob,
FIrst of all, thanks for taking the time to put all these options together as it looks like a lot of work!
As far as myself, I will "go with the flow", as option 1 sounds GREAT (all that food made me hungry!) because it has EVERYTHING. However, I will not have a vehicle, so I am at the mercy of Scarecrow, RC, etc. to cart my arse around.
So basically whatever they decide is where I am going!
Thanks again!!

Note: Harrahs in Joliet is about a 20 minute ride from option #1 and maybe 45 minutes back to Oakbrook.

Note: If we want to do Poker in either location, I need to know how $involved$ you all want to be. These details would have to be determined prior to getting to each facility.
Please let me know in your response if poker is something you want to do and at what "stake" that would have on your evening. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Thanks Rob for all the hard work. I think option #1 and #3 would be best. Everyone had a great time playing poker last year. If there are a couple of cars available I'll be with a couple of people that do not drink so they can drive everyone home.
I'll send you an email,
Don

I am going to take a ride to Harrahs tomorrow to see if they can do anything for us?

(Actually I believe Don paid for us!
)
Point is that I have NEVER paid to go into a casino before. We ALL walked out with more $$$ than we walked in with, so everything was OK!

I'm for #1 or #2 simply because I like the ponies and we are playing poker and hold'em Friday night. #1 sounds the best as it is the best of all worlds for food and entertainment. I only drink Buckler or O'Doules so the drive won't be a problem.
