I agree many of the games haven't been all that great. But I think the Super Bowl is more than just another NFL game. It's an EVENT. And yeah I put that in caps because I think it's arguably the biggest sporting event in the world (I'm sure World Cup fans will now come in and correct me

). I think you want to maximize the event for all it's worth and I think that putting it in a situation where the chances for negative weather are significantly higher makes little big-picture sense.

Again, New York is an amazing city and the NFL will be saving a lot of money (this factor cannot be understated). But I also believe that this game is more than just another game and should be treated as such. Therefore, hosting it in a warm-weather location or at least a dome stadium presents the most intelligent way to maximize this event for all it has to offer.

The NFL isn't going to lose any money and ratings will not be hurt by a game played under extreme conditions.

I would argue the opposite. With a foot of snow and 20mph winds, this game could easily become an instant classic and guess who would benefit? The NFL!

A 3-2 final would be great as long as I bet the under! Speaking of which, the props will be more creative and easier/tougher to hit when you factor in some real weather. Bring it on!

i think this is the best point made. if your talking feb 16th it makes a HUGE difference. if not then i want as many zeros , threes , and sevens in my super bowl box.

I'm a player, I bust my ass for 6-7 months to go to the Super Bowl, and then have to party and play in 0-40 degree weather? That's bullsh*t.

And GK, for a New Yorker to tell a New Orleanian that NY has the best party is like Gov. Patterson telling former Gov. Spitzer women are cool and he's thinking about using an escort service.

New Orleans always has been, is now, and always will be, the best party town, bar none.

Hint, GK, you notice the NFL players association isn't doing cartwheels over this decision. Like I said, if I'm a player, I'm wanting to shoot my owner if he voted for this.

I'm sure Tom remembers the last baseball draft held at the Javits Center in March. The weather was horrible and just a pain to get around.
Regarding the big game. Remember, east coast start time 6;30 p.m. so forget a nice sunny day. The wind in the Meadowlands should be lovely.
Next, I have no idea how tickets are distributed and who actually attends the game. But if you are a fan flying in for the weekend, if there are any airport closures in the days leading up to the game you could be screwed.

I think the NFL should follow the precedent they set with the NFL draft and have the Super Bowl in NY every year.

PS - Let's not forget that two of the greatest & most memorable football championship games in history were played in blistering winter conditions in 1958 and 1967.

you can play an afc or nfc championship game in a cold weather city but not a super bowl ? new orleans is a party town but dont get so drunk that you cant tell the transvestites. as far as not being able to fly in i dont think thats a problem. you got as much chance of that as a new orleans guy not able to get online due to storms for the nffc contest in sept. i just think the new orleans guys are pissed they have to swim in there indoor pools this year.
