David, You have a good plan but not enough time to pull this off. First problem is you want too much money to play this game without any rules in place. Second problem is there isn't any stat service or draft site already set up. I know Greg said he could set up the stats but the cost hasn't been set. Finally I know your only trying to put together a basketball draft because theres no hockey.

Not sure why you are requiring positions in a roto-style hoops league. Points based and head-to-head I understand. But I equate this to P requirements in roto baseball. If a team wants to go with nine closers then let them have at it. Likewise if a team wants to draft all PG’s why should they not be allowed to do so?

If you are going to require a C and you are going to do regular serpentine then I’ll have to pass on this one. Picking from the bottom (10-12) would be too much of a disadvantage to overcome in my opinion.
I support you guys trying to pull this thing off, but I’m not willing to take a about a 1 in 2 chance that my entry could be a complete donation based solely on what draft slot I draw.
By nixing position requirements I believe you can minimize this.

King of Queens, I'm sure you could come up with 10 bodies to do this draft. But it won't prove anything unless you get some of the best owners joining up. I think most of the best won't based on my points that I posted before.

If you guys can host the online draft somewhere else, I believe that Allstar Stats can run this league for us as they have a FAAB setup similar to what we're using with STATS. I'll work on the commissioner price with Rick Wolf, but check that site out when you have time.
Nnoy, I don't think it's too much to ask to have five designated starting positions and then four Flex spots. Your example about pitchers is similar in nature, but you also have 14 designated hitting positions, too, in the NFBC. Basically, this basketball setup isn't any different than baseball, where you have 55% designated positions and four other positions that you can use any way you see fit.
As for not competing because of the draft position you may get, well, I guess that's been covered plenty of times. If you don't get Garnett, you lose, right? I have a feeling a few other guys will take their chances on their 11 other picks.
Walla Walla, you are correct about Dyv's loss of hockey and he needs to fill the void come January, February and March. There's no way hockey is coming back, so Dyv is looking for a different fix. But if we get one league organized and have some fun with it and work out some kinks and some rules, maybe we can unveil this in 2005-06. It certainly won't be unveiled in a grand scale like baseball or football, but it's another option for the future.
I'll help where I can and if we get 12 guys and have some fun with it, great. If not, no big deal. I'm also willing to just pay cash to the winners rather than free entries if that's what you guys want. We're just trying to have a little hoops fun and see what happens. If you are interested, just let us know and we'll see how many guys we have by next week at this time and act accordingly. Thanks everyone.

The rules are pretty simple. It's roto style, weekly transactions, FAAB -- what's not to understand?

Dyv, if we do use All Star Stats, I believe the only positions they use are C, F/C, F, G/F, and G. Regardless, it seems that we are at the mercy of our stat service.
The draft could be conducted over yahoo, but I think we need to reserve a time with them. Not sure if 11/2 8pm and 11/3 11pm are available.

I actually watched Slap Shot last night just to try to help my fix... lol
There are stat and draft services ready to go - I have about 7 different choices right now and I'm sure one will work. I just have to make sure I list pros and cons of each from cost to extras and then implement. As for rules, what am I missing? We'll pull this off for a league or two!

The Wonderful thing about Dyv's is I'm the only one!

I don't understand why you don't understand.
