Potential Scoring Change

Post by TamuScarecrow » Tue Nov 13, 2007 3:56 pm

I can just picture HH winning the $100K only to have Greg and Tom show up at his house 3 months later to foreclose on his house due to a scoring change made in March. :D :D

NAG, how about some examples of scoring changes that have been made the last 10 weeks that no one got points for. That way you can either really get the masses stirred up or shut up completely about this topic until February. Like you, I'm all for getting the scoring as correct as possible but the impetus is on the NFL and I think the recent court loss over stat ownership isn't going to endear them to accommodate fantasy football leagues with the most correct stats.

I understand there must be a deadline...and before new games are played.

But damn it is unjust to have things that actually happened on the NFL field of play to not count here.

We pretty much put 100% of our trust into the fact that we will get credit for what our players do.

To not get credit for what our starters do is just a joke.

Impressive, NAG, but once again I'm going to ask this question, why does it take the NFL 4 days to make these corrections? A billion-dollar business can't afford an official scorer to review the game film after the game to make these changes known by Tuesday at the latest? Bullsh*t. This is the NFL not giving a rat's rump about stats but caring only about making sure the gate receipts are accurately counted. There is absolutely no reason stat finality can't be achieved by Tuesday.

All changes must be implemented, with a reasonable deadline (which I personally think should be Saturday). KNOWINGLY not getting the correct stats for your team is an absolute travesty.

Stat Changes for Week #9 (Published Thu Nov 8 10:08:14 a.m. ET 2007) So with the exception of Week 3 (and possibly Week 1), all of the changes were published by Elias by 3pm ET Thursday.

Looking forward to next year, it would seem to make sense to move the deadline for scoring changes to late Thursday. Of course, this will become a problem starting with Thanksgiving and every Thursday thereafter. Worst of all will be the final two weeks of FAAB (weeks 12 and 13), where tie-breakers could potentially change with amended wins and losses.

Nag', constructively speaking, how would you propose to handle the Thursday game issue?

I personally do not see a problem with making retroactive changes once Thursday games went off, even if it means a change in win/loss. I've seen it done in WCOFF for 6 years and Antsports (whose deadline is Sunday kickoff).

In any event, your evidence (Elias posting dates and times) has proven that the Wednesday 12pm deadline is meaningless. Let's move this to the forefront of 2008 rules changes.

Mr. Childs had an excellent point that got somewhat lost in the shuffle -- why has it taken so long for this to become important?

This issue was discussed over 5 weeks ago at which time, the Wednesday deadline was deemed to be obsolete and more importantly - dangerously unfair to the participants who are being screwed out of EARNED points.
