Some Very Preliminary Rankings

Post by Tom Kessenich » Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:13 am

Excluding Week 17 which most leagues don't use here are Anderson's last four games:

Week 13: 304 yards/2 TDs
Week 14: 185 yards/2 TDs
Week 15: 137 yards/0 TDs
Week 16: 251 yards/2 TDs

That's only one stinker in the final month. Now he did throw 7 INTs in those four games but his TDs were strong in nearly every game and he had two strong yardage games. I'm not seeing a problem there.

As far as my point about offenses vs. defenses, when people look at Strength of Schedule they always favor the defense. I don't buy that and never have. I think a good offense can score against a good defense so if Anderson, for example, is facing a good defense I'm not as worried about him. I still think the Browns will get theirs because their offense is so potent.

That's just my philosophy and it's why I don't put much stock in SOS though I know plenty of people do and I respect that.

Week 14 185-2-1
week 15 137-0-0
week 16 251-2-4
Week 17 152-1-1

I include week 17 because it was an important week for Cleveland (even if not for fantasy) and they needed Anderson to perform at a high level.
So over the last 4 weeks of the season, Anderson averaged 181 - 1.25 - 1.5 or 15.05 points per game. Add in week 13 and that goes up to 17.1 points per game.

That was an important week for Cleveland but you can't argue that from a fantasy perspective - and that's what we're talking about here. In those final four weeks, Anderson was strong for his fantasy owners. Again, anything can happen but given how incredibly weak I believe the QB position is this year I think he represents one of the few legit QB1 options available.

We can agree to disagree on Anderson's potential this year. And if he ends the season as a top 5 QB, I'll gladly admit to the flaws in my logic. ;)

Enjoyed looking at your preliminary rankings.

I also like Derek Anderson.

His O-line is solid. He has a decent RB threat.

But most of all...he has targets that have glue-hands!

Braylon and Kellen are two of the top 5 in their respective positions...maybe even top 2.

Quinn can keep posing and making poorly acted commercials with his Brady Bunch era hairstyle.

If Shockey were traded to the Saints on NFL Draft Day, would it raise his ranking, or lower it? Just curious because I've seen this rumor 3-4 times over the last month.

IN MY OPINION IT WOULD KEEP IN NEUTRAL BUT IN REALITY IT WOULD GO DOWN.

THE SAINTS SPREAD THE BALL AROUND ALOT AND WITH MCALLISTER BEING THERE ONE MORE YEAR HE IS GOING TO HIS TOUCHES AS WELL.

ERIC JOHNSON DID O.K. AS A T.E. WHEN HEALTHY BUT HE DISSAPPEARED ALOT AND I DON'T THINK IT WAS SO MUCH HIS FAULT.

I think it might be neutral as well. The problem with Shockey isn't so much his situation in my opinion but the fact he has durability issues. I could see taking him over Clark if he goes to the Saints but I'm not sure I'd take him ahead of the other six - especially if Heap is healthy (and right now it looks like he will be).

TO EXPAND ON THAT TOM I THINK SHOCKEY'S NAME GIVES HIM MORE VALUE THAN HIS ACTUAL PRODUCTION.

I THINK SOMEONE LIKE AN OWEN DANIELS COULD GET YOU JUST AS GOOD NUMBERS AS SHOCKEY AND YOU COULD GET HIM LATER IN DRAFTS. NO MUCH LATER BUT NEVERTHELESS LATER.
