Greg/Tom,
I want this subject to be gone like I'm sure you both do, but I feel compelled to state a few things here. This has really been bothering me. I didn't email since this thread seems to want to clear the air in public.
First off, I care about this event. I want it and these message boards to be successful.
I am speaking up, not for Glenn, but for the future direction of the boards.
Two things bug me about this thread:
1- If you have banned the Snake moniker, why use it in the title of this thread? No good can come from that.
2- I don't understand why you leave it to the MB members to "police themselves"? What good can come from this? All it takes is one person to say something polarizing and we back policing each other.
Since you and Tom are here on the boards frequently enough, is it possible for you to take swift and concise action? This eliminates any appearance of "us versus them" or talk of a "chum club". If someone messes up, eliminate them, period.
Respectfully requested. Russ, since you brought this thread to the forefront once again, I'll gladly answer this.
We announced Glenn's suspension from the boards to let people know that we are going to follow through with the punishments we've announced on our boards if people can't be respectful of others. The first recourse is a warning, the second recourse is a one-week suspension of the boards, the third recourse is a four-week suspension of the boards and the final recourse is banishment from the boards. I stated that two years ago when Glenn received his second penalty.
As he knows, we communicated often this year about how I expected folks to behave on our boards this year and after several more warnings we felt it was necessary to impose a third penalty on Glenn. His status will be looked at again on Monday and he knows that the fourth strike is banishment from the boards. We're not hiding anything from him or any of our other members, who are all under the same guidelines.
Our Message Boards have always been our best promotional vehicle. It is our open forum to the people who run this contest and to the participants in this contest. In the early years, it was a positive for the NFFC as folks saw how transparent we were as operators with our signup information, our rules discussions and our contest standings. Even though we had hearty discussions on our boards in the early years, I still feel the forum was a positive promotional vehicle for us.
In recent years, some people have said they wouldn't join our contest because of the boards. I don't agree with their reasoning, but if that is happening Russ then it's affecting our business and we need to step in and reign in that area of our business. It's no different than if I was costing Fanball business because of my MB actions or Tom was; we'd both be subject to review and possible punishments. Glenn or any other NFFC member is no different.
Everyone now knows our guidelines. Yeah, I'm the bad guy for banning Glenn and telling everyone that. But now the rules are set and it's time to grow up and behave. I'm not going to let the inmates overrun this asylum.
Glenn, like Gekko in baseball, is too good a player to just be known for his MB antics. Like Mark, it's time to outgrow the message board persona and go back to just discussing the sport and let your performances tell your story. I'm not sure why Mark and Glenn both do what they do when their success speaks for themselves, but it's beyond my psychiatric knowledge. I've asked Glenn to just talk football, to not dominate the threads and to enjoy the boards along with the contest. Our boards are more civil now and if they can't stay that way then I'll take more action.
Hopefully I've made myself clear. I know you love these boards and want them to return to 24/7/365 football talk. I do too. We all do. We're ALL sick of the rest of the he vs. she feuds we've had since Year One. Let the results speak for themselves and may the best owners win. Am I clear enough now?
