Priest Holmes weeks:15.5 16.5 10.8 19.3 0 26.3 22.1 6.8

Can we agree that everyone in this league will list these players as the top 4 picks next year?
(I'm combining Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson stats....Larry Johnson will be a top 4 pick)

So 100 percent of the players would like to start from these spots. Now when you are making your list, you have to list everyone in order. At what point is someone going to make a play to drop down in the draft: 9th, 11th...who knows, but you won't know at the time what your choices are. Would you take 14 over the 6th spot? Or would you only take it over the 12th and 13th? Say the 14 pick is your 7 choice, for some reason someone takes that pick before you. Now your pick list goes like this: 1,2,3,4,5,6,14,7,8,13,12,11,10,9. Your real choice is between 13 and 9. Would your list be the same if you knew? What if your choice was between 10 and 9, would you really give up the chance for that choice of players? I'm not sure. I think most people will list them in order. Some might move one spot. That is why the KD method should be done LIVE at the draft - takes five minutes at most and when you get to pick, you know exactly what is available not what might not be available or what you guess is going to be available.

Because there is a better way!!! So that is your response? "Because there is a better way!!"

What way is that? If you are a parent, I hope you don't take the same approach with your kids....

But why dad? "Because I said so!"

I am not here to argue, just wondering what people think, especially when there are "better ways"

I want to know what the better ways are....

I agree with Cptn Hook, doing the Derby method live would be FANTASTIC, as it would eliminate the random factor even more.

I am sure the live derby would cause some problems with draft boards, table settings, etc....but the way Greg and Tom run this thing, I am sure they could pull it off!

I still would love to know why this method is inadequate compared to random selection.

I voted for the kentucky derby style.Im coming back each year no matter what format is put in.I do agree with the captin hook,I would like to do this live draft day also.I also like the blind bidding idea better then the other two.The only thing i don't like about the live idea is doesn't give you alot of time to think about where you would be if you got your spot a week before.i don't need the time but some might.i would need a few minutes .

thanks johnny

Yes, they were all live. I like the live option better than a predetermined slotting. It requires the owner to adjust on the fly and I always think that is a better option.

I think it is better than random for this reason: If a single owner drew the 8th slot but that owner would prefer to draft on the button and selected the 14th slot then the system has worked and one owner is happier and no one is worse off than they would have been with a totally random allocation. It really is a simple concept. Personally I have favorite draft slots that seem to work for me and this draft slot distribution method suits my desires very well.

If I don't vote, am I taking a stand that the only switch that offers anything is BBDS. I think 90 percent of owner will list the order the same as now(1 to 14). I like it as a change in baseball, but it doesn't do anything for me in football. I have been in several "owner picks draft spot" drafts and I have never seen the draft order exactly mimick the random order of selection. :Anecdote: [/QUOTE]Were these live? It would be different then.

Actually ... assuming the other 13 people wanted the Highest draft pick possible ... 6 people move up one pick ... so 7 people (who got the less desirable draft slots) are happier and better off for it. :D

HOWEVER, how often does the first round go EXACTLY as you plan it out? And if the first round is different, the 2nd round will have even more differences, and so on.

I too prefer BBDS, but since that is no longer an option, I agree with God Loves You, that I too feel there is a BIG drop off in 1st round talent each year. For example, this past year, assuming LT, SA, and James went 1,2,3, I would want nothing to do with the 4th position. In fact, the 4th spot was not much different than the 10th spot to me (10th is what I had). HOWEVER, the 2nd round selection at 10 (pick 2.05), was much more appealing than pick 2.11).

I got McAllister at 10, which obviously didn't work out too well, but who knew?

Bottom line.... having SOME input with your draft slot is better than none!

I agree that doing this live would be the best way to go, and would add even MORE excitement to "draft day"! :D

How long till next year's draft? ;)

I voted in favor of the Kentucky Derby style because some input to me is better than none. To me, unless you are the last guy standing, you have some input. However, I would much prefer this to happen live on draft day also.

One way or the other, we will be back in 2006!

I also would like to see the KD style done live on draft day. I did it this year in another larger league and thought it added another layer of suspense and excitement. I was selected somewhere around 8th and actually received a pick I wanted, 5th (though I did nothing with it as I gambled and took Dom Davis - 1 pt per catch format). We all know how that worked out but the system did work and was very cool.

I prefer knowing my draft slot before the draft. I'm all for fun and excitement, but I'd rather have a plan going in rather than winging it from the start. There's a big difference in drafting from the 3 slot vs. the 12 slot.

Have your fun in those $100 leagues if you want, but no way am I winging it with a $1250 investment. This is the one idea that would keep me from coming back next year. Not the KD style but doing it live is what I'm talking about.

i was one who debated the merits of dery style quite often about a month ago... i do now think doing it LIVE at the draft would be a lot of fun. plus, things change in football all the time. you may want a different draft position comme draft day compared to what you wanted a week prior.

on a sidenote... shawn alexander would not be in my top 4 picks next year if he (as a free agent) signs with a team that does not have the kind of run blocking line or scheme to allow him to flourish. will larry johnsons offensive line be the same? will brees be the QB spreading the field for tomlinson next year? where will edge james be playing? james and alexander are not nearly as valuable to me on a different team...

those who drafted portis high the year after he left denver learned the lesson of how "system" can be more important to a players production then his own talent....
