Week 11 Thoughts & Observations

That should've been Week 17 of 2009 when Welker last had two receptions or fewer in a game.

No way Caleb Hanie leads them to the playoffs. In your week 13 observations, you will be saying something like "Hanie is better than I expected". Feel free to save this post for usage in 2 weeks.
Even if he's better than I expected I still don't think he's leading the Bears to the playoffs, Jack, which is what I said. Here's their remaining schedule:

Week 12: at Oakland
Week 13: vs. Kansas City
Week 14: at Tebows
Week 15: vs. Seattle
Week 16: at Green Bay
Week 17: at Minnesota

Of those remaining games, I think the Raiders and Packers are losses. I think it will be tough for them to win at Denver and Kansas City can be a difficult place to play as well. As I posted earlier, Seattle is playing better of late - especially defensively. The easiest remaining game I see is the last one against the Vikings and that's a road/division game and those are rarely easy.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go 0-6 the rest of the way. I doubt that happens, especially if Cutler is able to return before the end of the season, but I think that's a tough schedule for a backup QB to handle.
0-6? They grow pot in Iola, too? I'm coming to your house to watch games this weekend! :D

That is an easy schedule for the Bears other than Green Bay. If you think Hanie is not very good, look at the QB's the Bears will be playing in the other 5 games - Palko, Ponder, Tebow, Palmer, and T. Jackson. Their defense creates turnovers, which will not be that hard to do against that posse. That is an easy 3-3 record at worst for the Bears.

Plus, I watch amazed when teams still keep kicking to Hester. San Diego was absolutely getting crushed by the Bears special teams on Sunday.

Jack, I think you're underestimating a couple of things:

1. How tough it is to win on the road. It's tough enough for teams with their starting QBs, much less their backups.

2. I think you're really underestimating how good Denver's defense is playing right now. Forget about Tebow, the Broncos' D has been one of the best units in the league lately.

I also think Seattle is going to be a tougher game than you expect again due to their improved defense of late.

The only two games on the remaining schedule that I think are strong bets to win are KC and Minnesota. And again, the Vikings game is a divisional road game and we all know how tough those can be. But I still think the Bears can win that game.

And since you missed what I said I'll repeat that I doubt the Bears go 0-6. I simply think their schedule is more challenging than you do.

The Broncos released Kyle Orton today. I have to think the Bears and Texans will be very interested in him. If the Bears get him, I change my prediction. Orton isn't very good but I think he'd be an upgrade over Hanie and good enough to get them to the playoffs.

Of course, the Dolphins could block both of them. Given how close they came to trading for Orton in the preseason it wouldn't be a surprise if they went after him now.

How odd broncos would release orton now...coincidentally when Bears lose cutler. Makes me wonder if they somehow had a secret deal with bears...be especially fishy if dolphins decide they don't want orton after how close they came to trading for him like u said..

I think the Hanie led Bears can beat KC, Seattle and Miiny at the least and am 70% sure they can beat Tebow in Denver. The Bears team speed on D will be the difference and they WILL force Tebow to beat them through the air. 4-2 down the stretch is my prediction for Mr. Hanie and co.

I think the Broncos made a mistake but I guess it came down to money? It would be fitting for the Chiefs to make a claim and if I were them, I would go and get Orton.
