SOLD OUT: New York Auction League

When Eddie Gillis fell off the chair, it broke the ice for all of us. Thanks Eddie! ;)

I also loved the year where the ESPN guys followed me and a few others around during the auction. I spent around 3 hours with those guys, told them the ins and outs of the auctions. Even got in a bidding war with someone just to bump up a player's value(and it worked, as I pulled out at the last second)...Only to see myself for 1.5 seconds on the ESPN 30/30 series. LMAO. I'm guessing my opinions and commentary wasn't ESPN brass material. Seriously thought, they disappointed BIGTIME, with the mockery of fantasy they made it out to be. 30/30 is a very good show, but they dropped the ball on that episode and could have done so much more for their show and modern fantasy sports too.

Agreed Marc. The ESPN 30 For 30 Series was a fantastic series of pieces, but the worse one by far was the Fantasy Football piece. Those guys spent 18 months interviewing industry execs and videotaping live events like the NFFC in New York and came up with a re-creation of America that was comical. That was a shame because they could have done so much with that piece. Oh well.

The ESPN crew let me know that even though they cut out 95 percent of all commentary given by us players and experts, that they needed to make sure I was in there somehow. Even though I'm an old(39 tomorrow) fat guy, my face is too marketable not to have on TV. ;) . I'm like Brad Pitt if he went on an eating binge. Lmao. So I got my 1.5 seconds of ESPN fame.

I too was disappointed with the 30 for 30 piece. I also was followed some.. interviewed at least 4 times, including one sit down interview where I gave them (what I thought) was a ton of good information about this hobby and how/why it has exploded. The only thing they used was me explaining how I highlight players in different colored pens on a cheat sheet...lol

I understand they were trying to make it an artsy piece about the founding father guys and after completing that there was only a little time to throw in some parts showing what high stakes fantasy sports have become..

To me, though the founding father guys are an interesting story (and how they failed to make anything off what they in some ways started) the much bigger story is how enormous the fantasy sports phenomenon has become...

That was the story.. that is the thing that has profoundly impacted the American sports and sports viewing landscape.

They missed the boat on this one.

I just read the previous parts of this thread... I wish I could be in this league. tough to swing multiple high stakes events to be honest. The auction format is my favorite to be honest.. Some great players in this league and would be fun to compete in it. Congrats to Diesel on the baby Diesel

Tom, if you need an auctioneer or facilitator, let me know. Would really enjoy being around this draft.
