I would even be in favor of a FAAB after week 1 and after week 9 (prior to the playoffs) and that's it.
We do start NFFC Online Championship drafts in early July and don't have FAAB until after Week 1 and those have only 20-man rosters. I think if we go to 26-man rosters, we can stick with FAAB after Week 1. Three FAAB max -- and your suggestion of just two -- seems to be where we're headed. Blame Quahogs for all this!! He set us straight.

If you guys do decide to do a FA period I would suggest having it after week 3 and prior to week 4 with BYE weeks starting week 4. The 2nd and or 3rd period wouldn't matter much to me. Personally I would prefer none but if you do go with some I think right before the BYE weeks hit would be a nice opportunity for teams to plan accordingly.

There's a nice stretch (week 8-10) where half the NFL is on Bye during that 3-week period.

How about 4 FAAB periods (every 3 weeks):

1. Before Week 1 (early drafts will have some holes, only fair to let everyone try to have a full roster to start; FAAB is league independent too, so using it early isn't necessarily a bad thing, if others bid early as well.)

2. Before Week 4 (Byes begin Week 4, everyone should be able to Survive Week 1-3 with no Bye weeks)

3. Before Week 7 (or maybe even Week 8 instead) (Leading into the Bye Week stretch from Hell)

4. Before Week 10 (Heading into the Playoffs)

One of the things we have to be careful with our rules tweaks is to make sure this is still an appealing contest for new participants. After all, this has the chance to be a good entry-level contest for the millions of folks who play in 10-team leagues on Yahoo.com and ESPN.com. So a deeper roster size which makes the initial draft more fun and weekly lineup changes are key. But we still need some in-season free agent additions. Finding that mix that appeals to many veteran fantasy football owners who also like this cutline format along with attracting new members thanks to the game format and nice overall prizes is key. I think we can do that.

But let's make sure we have some meaningful FAAB periods to keep all players pushing to improve their teams, without weekly FAAB. Fair enough?

Sounds fair enough, hope its not more than 3 at most FA periods.

Just trying to see the other side of this ... a low-stakes guy might look at this as his "main event" equivalent.
So a Q for the high stakes player, would 3 faab periods be ok for your NFBC main event leagues?

Whatever your answer, I'm not suggesting a perfect analogy between the two contests - but it could help to achieve some balance between the views of different types of players that might be interested in joining.

If drafted 25-26 rounds like this I would be A ok with only 3 FA periods. Another reason I prefer minimal FA periods in this format is because of entry fee and like stated above we are drafting a lot of players.

Coyote - same answer if the entry fee is $1500 for the cutline champ? You never know, maybe it could be a high stakes contest too.

That would be a real exciting twist and if we drafted 26 rounds I think I would be just fine with it. Initial thought is with deeper rosters I would be ok with a minimal or modified FA periods. I may think about it more and change my mind but right now that sounds very cool and puts the importance on the draft but it still allows you a few FA periods to tweak it. Interesting stuff.

Now you've piqued my interest!! I never thought of it growing to that level!! :D

If you have 16 reserves and need to start only 10 players per week, I do hope that 3 FAAB periods is enough. There's still a lot of decisions to be made during the season with start/sit matchups and we'll run these FAAB pickups just on Friday's, not Wednesday and Friday. So I think there's still a lot here at $125 without taxing the player too much.

Now at a higher stakes level, maybe you change things. Or as Mike said, maybe you don't and it still is fun at a higher price point. Let's get a great debut season under our belts first and see where it takes us.

We'll be programming the NFFC Post-Season Contest to be run on the NFFC site this year with real-time Overall Standings as well. It's important to keep our IT guys busy and adding new games to the site is the way to go!! 8-) We have another cool idea in mind for the future that could really work here.
