Analyzing NFFC Primetime Playoff Format
Not sure if it would be too complicated for a main event or not, but I think being the first main event to the victory point party would be one hell of an idea. I know it is a bit of a foreign concept here but I can promise you there is no more fun way to run a league. Playing in about 20 leagues that use it this year, I can say it is a hell of a lot more fun to root for things come Monday night than any other format. You are trying to get in the top 4 to get that extra point. Or you are trying to hold on for 8th to preserve that point. Not to mention all your opposition you are rooting for or against to better your cause. FFPC big leagues use this and it is awesome. I would strongly recommend looking into it further and determining why it would not be feasible in the main event. Very possible there is a good reason it wouldn't work, but after people got used to it, they would like it a lot. Trust me on that.
For those unfamiliar, there are 4 possible victory points up for grabs each week. You get 2 for beating your head to head opponent. Then you get 2, 1 or 0 for being in the top, middle or bottom third of the league in points. The amount of rooting for number crunching types is much better, and at the end of the day you are somewhat likely to have the proper teams involved in the playoffs, although not guaranteed as there can be flukes in this format as well. So much more on the line as the weeks wind down in this format as every point matters. Just food for thought.

What is great about it is that it incorporates H2H and total points (much like All Play) as Chad stated. Fantasy Jungle did All Play for their Main Event and seemed to get a great deal of signups. And we know our money is safe here.
If that were implemented, my suggestion would be to play the 13 week season like normal (playing 2 random teams twice), and after week 13, the top victory point team would win 1st place league money, 2nd victory points would win 2nd place league money. These two teams would be automatically in the championship round carrying their total points scored average for the year (same way we do it now).
To add another team, I would have the 3rd highest victory points and the NEXT HIGHEST TOTAL POINTS (not victory points) play in week 14 H2H for 3rd place league money and to determine who continues on in the championship round, and who goes to the consolation bracket (and that would be added to their scoring average as well).
It might be a bit confusing to understand (especially mainly using the victory points as criteria to get in the playoffs, but then switching to straight points scored ......but in reality, we already do that now.
The positives are that it would keep FOUR teams alive (and there would be so many possibilities as you can gain and lose ground VERY quickly in those), but only THREE would get in the championship round. It truly is a great way to measure who the best teams truly are, as there is so much less "H2H luck", and even if a team has say 2 monster weeks, and a bunch of poor ones, it probably won't be enough to get them the total points wildcard.
While there may be a "fluky team" here or there, consistency is awarded, and there is much less room for luck. I am seriously considering only playing in FFPC leagues next year that use victory points (no Main Event because I HATE the 11 week season.
Like Chad said, it might be a tough sell, but in the end, they are the best leagues out there for fun and fairness.
The FFPC private leagues allow SIX teams a shot at the money (which I feel is too many), but think about it.....
1) Still a 13 week regular season
2) Still a 3 week playoff in the championship round
3) Eliminating a lot of the luck of H2H that people don't seem to like HOWEVER, you still have the "intimacy" of a H2H league.
4) Total Points would still matter for that 4th place wild card team.
Sounds like a dream Main Event to me!

Analyzing NFFC Primetime Playoff Format
I personally want to see the teams who performed best over the regular season get paid and not have to 're-earn' their prize money in the playoffs. How much, is debatable, but I do think they should be rewarded and paid.
I am open to expanding the teams who have a shot at the championship playoffs and chase for the biggest prizes. This allows the team who got hurt early in the season by injury, but was well managed by the owner and is peaking in late November to have a shot at NFFC glory.
Though I at times get frustrated by h2h as much as anyone, I think it is an important part of the game. In many ways the "my guys vs his guys" thing is the essence of fantasy football. The high's and lows it can bring are part of what makes the game thrilling. I know many people focus too much on the lows when things don't go their way and that results in people wanting to dump the format.
I would like to see 1st in H2H and 1st in points through 13 weeks get paid the majority of the league prizes (how much can be discussed). Then the next best total points and h2h teams join a 3 week sprint to chase some smaller remaining league prizes and the big national prize (currently 100K). You could still have the 10% rule for that occasional team who scores great all season but gets caught in a super strong league.
I used to think the teams in the championship playoffs needs to be an ultra exclusive group. I now see the value in opening it up some without opening up the flood gates.

[/QUOTE]I'd support VP too, I think a lot of players would as it's more familiar than it gets credit for. Antsports has had big numbers of smaller money lges, free teams and mocks playing in this system for as long as I can remember. However, if you're going to use VP don't muddy the waters by using points for anything but a tiebreaker.
Allplay, on the other hand, is the dullest format in the world. I played jungle for a few years and I never watched those teams on Sunday because there was no one to beat.

One of the things that seems rather weak in all of these complicated playoff structures is that every league home page shows "standings", but the standings are not the standings. How hard would it be to show true standings as the league is structured?
Along these same lines, nothing is listed on the actual playoff structure within the league pages - and many of the different NFFC lges have different seeding setups. Simple, consistent and accurate standings would be very welcome.
That's another good thing about VP - if the standings say you're in third place you're ACTUALLY in third place.

Here's why I hate an 11-week regular season. I have Beanie Wells on my FBG Online team that of course is idle this week after winning five straight games. NOW he has the breakout game when these points don't count at all.

Yep.....my online FBG team was #1 seed, so although I get a lottery ticket with probably 500 others, I am gonna lose this week. and get NOTHING.
NFFC Online championship....13 weeks and prizes BEFORE the grand prize lottery round.,,,that's where it's at!!!!
I'm with Tommy Yates......most likely no more 11 week regular season leagues for me....(unless my Main Event team makes some serious cash in the championship round.)

I don't like any format that has bye weeks or no game. "we play to win the game!!!!"
can't win it if you have no game.
can't win it if you have no game.

Lots of us have been pushing for the Antsports VP system for several years now. I don't think there is a fairer system out there.
Would it be accepted by the masses if used at this level? I think so if presented properly.
Just like KDS, it's an easy sell. You just need to demonstrate how it rewards the most successful teams every week and over the course of an entire season.
