WEEK 1 Waiver Wire

Post by Sandman62 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 1:31 am

Hmm... should I feel stupid that NO ONE bid on the 3 players we picked up, and we spent 87, 69, and 53 on them? :(

Either they turn out to be useless and we're fools, or maybe we just gave our fellow league members more credit than we should've? ;)

Kregg Lumpkin, RB, GB, $87: If Grant's hammy doesn't heal and w/ Jackson's concussion last week, this guy's been practicing all week w/ the 1st squad. GB gets to face DET this week. Could he be THIS year's Ryan Grant?

Steve Breaston, WR, ARI, $69: Having lost Colston already, our WR1 is now Boldin. So this is part handcuff, esp. seeing we had Boldin last year in another league and he's injury prone. ARI throws a lot, so who knows?

Matt Prater, K, DEN, $53: We dropped Kaeding for him, so this could be risky. But with Merriman out and LT/Gates injuries, maybe SD isn't as good this year? OTOH, w/ DEN's easy schedule and the emergence of Cutler & Royal, I expect them to roll to 11 or 12 wins. When teams do that, their kickers usually score a lot.

Only time will tell.

I thought so too weber, but last year Folk went for 88 in one league, 43 in another, 59, etc.. I may be wrong, but I think the Broncos win a lot this year and score a lot.

Sandman- I'm with you on Breaston and Prater.
Drafted Breaston and picked up Prater for $21
last night (could have done a $1 bid).

Sandman, I really don't think your bids were that bad, especially if you really wanted them.I picked up LUMPKIN in my 3 leagues all for $21,I also grabbed FASANO in one league for $157.My only downfall was I got cute looking for a backup qb for farve.I plan to play him 12 weeks this, though I assume all BRADY owners were thinking the same.Anyway we put a token bid in for CASSEL$175,then I really wanted GRIESE and got cute and bid $61 and loss to $69 bid.I tried to finesse and got TRUMPED.Moral of the story,"IF YOU WANT SOMEONE YOU HAVE TO BID."

My QB's in the NFFC main were Bulger and Vince Young. After week one it was pretty clear that was a bigger weakeness than I even expected. The rest of my team, in my opinion, is extremely strong. So I thought I had to go hard at Cassell given the system, the weapons, the schedule and his comfort with the offense. My logic is very similar to Teds Cracked Heads...

I spent 497 thinking 500 might be a little imaginary barrier no one else would go over for him. I overspent by about 150 but feel if I am playing to win I have to play somewhat aggressive. You do not get too many opportunities to make a big splash via free agency. I obviously have no evidence this guy can really be a productive player... But I did not see how and where I was going to get a QB with this kind of potential on paper any other time this season...

I now have to root for the Pats who I dead root against every week!
