WINTER!!! You should have to live up here in Wisconsin. We'll show you what a WINTER looks like.

Hey, is Deion coming out of retirement or not? And why would he do that, to be a nickel back, anyway?

Just an FYI as I took a call tonight from two guys who wanted to sign up at the event on Saturday, Sept. 4th. Sorry, our registration deadline is Sunday, Aug. 29th and we'll announce all of the league pickings and draft orders no later than Tuesday, Aug. 31st.

So if you want to wait as long as possible to feel good about the NFFC's chances, wait until next week if you'd like, but not after that. We have to close it out at some time and giving everyone four days to know their draft picks is only fair.

Now, we GUARANTEE this event is going off. No folding tents here, so come and join us. And call me at 715-445-4612, ext. 284# if you have questions.

Greg -- I have a question about the prize structure. Today was the first time I actually looked at it carefully. Am I correct in saying that a team that finishes third in their league (missing the playoffs) and wins the consolation round earns more than the second place team that makes the playoffs but does not finish in the money? In fact, it seems like the consolation runner up makes the same money as the second place finisher. Is that correct? I would think that a team advancing should be guaranteed to make more than a team that doesn't.

If you finish third in your league, you earn $550. Now if that team wins the consolation tournament (against 86 percent of the non-playoff teams in the NFFC), they would win another $2,500. The consolation round runnerup (again against 86 percent of the teams in the NFFC) would win $1,500.

If you finish second in your league, you win $1,500. You are then one of just 14 percent of all teams in the NFFC to have a shot at the grand prize. If you don't finish in the top eight overall, you don't finish with more prize money. But you did win $1,500 and have a shot at a whole lot more money.

Why did we do it this way? Simple. Remember that you carry your weekly scoring average into the playoffs, so it's important for EVERY team to continue playing hard for all 13 weeks of the regular season. We also wanted to make the Consolation Round meaningful so that even non-playoff teams felt they were in a playoff atmosphere for Weeks 14, 15 and 16.

I've always felt if you are buying big money for a contest like this, you should have incentives to compete for 16 weeks, not 11 or 12. And I think we do that with our prize format.

Thoughts?

He's coming out of retirement because Lewis and Fuller have convinced him the Ravens are for real this year. And Deion has a thing for rings. The key is getting Chris McAllister signed. If that happens, this defense just might get it done again. My Super Bowl homer pick would be the Ravens and the Saints. Shame one team doesn't have much offense and the other doesn't have much defense. But I can dream!!!

I guess I didn't finish the math here, but you are right that finishing third in your league and first in the consolation round nets you $3,050. Finishing second in your league and not in the top eight in the playoffs nets you $1,500. I guess you can look at it as not fair, but I look at it as that third place team obviously came close to making the playoffs and now must feel bad that it didn't win more because it obviously had a hot Week 14, 15 and 16 run. Had that good team made the playoffs, it's possible it might have won the grand prize.

In that one scenario, I think both teams earned the right amount, but I might be wrong.

If the Ravens want to get back to the Super Bowl, they need a new QB because Kyle Boller isn't the answer. I think the Ravens are going to regret not making a run at Kerry Collins in the off-season.

Tom, did you see that post I made about Rich Gannon being upset to see himself out of the Top 25 rankings in a fantasy magazine? That wasn't our magazine, so I'm disappointed he didn't pick up ours at the newsstands. Should we rank him lower next year for his arrogance???

He must think he's got that starting job locked in for 16 weeks, right?

Yea I saw that. You and I talked about where to rank Gannon pretty extensively this summer. He was a tough one to rank. There is upside if he's healthy, but as I said in another post I just don't trust him because he was so bad before his injury last year and because I don't think Al Davis is going to allow Collins to sit on the bench all year.

Rick, how many fantasy leagues are you in? I know we have some serious players here and guys like Dyv, who is in 32 fantasy baseball leagues, are downright crazy. But I'd love to see how many leagues some of you guys are competing in this year.

I'm in seven fantasy baseball leagues this year, which was manageable until we started doing fantasy football magazines. But now I've lost touch with my baseball teams and I regret it. I think I've already done seven football drafts, which I know means trouble for me in September. But it's manageable.

Anyone else doing more this year?
