Tim Tebow - update - Tebow to the JETS
I'm not sure how you can draft just about any Jet player this season. Greene proved me wrong for drafting him last year and I won't fall for that again; especially with Tebow probably rushing in most of the close TD's. Holmes can't possibly be any better and his attitude will decline every week as the Jets try to run the ball. Maybe Keller? Nobody else though.

Wayne So backfiring means what? They are a better team with Drew Stanton as their backup, or the all pro backup tight end they lose from the 4th round pick they gave up? People are making it seem like we gave up 2 number 1 picks for this guy....

The media will be all over this and it will be a huge distraction for the team the entire year. With every interception Sanchez throws, there will be constant talk about bringing tebow in. I just see there being a lot of chaos in NY this year.

Wayne [/QUOTE]We are in New York. There is chaos all the time. Tebow just makes things a little more chaotic but nothing that a professional QB making $10 million per year shouldn't be able to handle. And if he can't... then in comes Tebow

I believe it was you that said that was lacking last year on Sanchez's behalf. Does bringing in Tebow help this?
The Jets will always be a circus as long as Rex Ryan is the coach. IMO, the decision to acquire Tebow just brings in added distraction to a team that had far too many of them last year. It's already starting and Tebow hasn't even officially became a Jet yet.
In the end I hope it works out and they are competitive this year. Someone in that division needs to compete with the Pats. I would really hate to see another cake walk to the division crown.

The trouble with bringing in such a popular backup is that if he does push the starter but the starter caves under the pressure, then you may be stuck with the backup as your new starter. This may work fine if the team really feels like that person can manage the starting gig - which, given the lack of interest by many other teams, it sure seems like most NFL teams don't think of Tebow as a starter.
But if he's really just being brought in to run the wildcat, then that could work - except that every snap he takes could eat away at the starter's confidence. Yeah, it's easy for us to sit here and say "then Sanchez shouldn't be the starter", but I'm not sure there are many QBs outside the top 5 that could take THAT kind of pressure - the media frenzy that surrounds Tebow - and still perform.
What you could end up with here is a starter who doesn't play at peak confidence and is relieved now and then by a Wildcat QB or the backup eventually takes over, but still can't throw or read defenses, etc.. I'm not sure either is very good - unless the prime goal is ticket sales and not quality football.
IMO, there's a reason most NFL teams don't have prominent backup QBs, and it's not just about money. They want their starters to know that it's their gig. (Of course, grooming tomorrow's next star QB via a clipboard and practices is different than bringing in a QB that will challenge for starting reps - whether deserved or not.)

I remember when the Broncos started Tommy Maddox and some other QB at the same time! They actually switched QB's after EVERY play for a bit. To light a fire under their butts. Does anyone remember how that went for the Broncos?

OK I think the media and the hype has really twisted this entire thing. First of all, I don't believe anyone is giving any credit to the New York sports fan. The New York fan doesn't buy hype. No matter who it is. Brett Favre was an icon, everywhere. But, when he came to the Jets and didn't produce, he was booed. In very few places would an icon get booed. They are given a free pass because they are who they are. In the Tebow arguement, you have to see that all the Jets fans want is a winner. I can even see where, during a given game, Sanchez throws an INT, some chants start for Tebow, and a bunch of die hard Jets fans throwing beer and hot dogs at the Tebow fans. When you have a polarizing figure such as Tebow, there will be people on both sides and a cause for debate and I just don't see the New York fan looking beyond the winning/losing aspect of this whole thing and in the end, Tebow added to the Jets roster, gives them a better chance to win, in my opinion. Sure, Tebow brings an entourage, but New York fans will ulitimately make the decision, and from what I am hearing, they don't buy the hype. Tebowmania will not be what it was in Denver. New York brings its own brand of hype. Its all about winning. And that's completely fine with me, as a Jets fan. I just want to win... I dont care who the QB is.
