2007 NFFC Regular Season Fun Facts

Okay, the regular season is complete and it's time to announce the Championship Round lineup. I'll get to that soon and add that to this thread this morning along with all kinds of fun facts. I also want to remind all owners that there is a Consolation Round for all non-playoff teams in the main event as we pay the top four finishers there. For both the Championship Round and the Consolation Round, we take your weekly scoring average and add that to your point totals in Weeks 14, 15, and 16 to determine the overall champions in each event. Good luck all as this should be a wild ride.

Okay, here's some quick facts about the first 13 weeks of the regular season. As mentioned on another thread, Troy Young of Bridgeport, Connecticut won the regular season title with a new NFFC record 2180.55 points, an average of 167.73 points per week. Outstanding job Troy. The No. 2 spot had the most teams in the Top 36 overall point total with five, followed by No. 1, No. 3 and No. 8 with four teams each. Here's the breakdown of teams that finished in the Top 36 overall in points:

Spots 1-5: 17 teams
Spots 6-9: 8 teams
Spots 10-14: 11 teams

The breakdown of teams in the Top 36 are as follows:
No. 1: 4 teams
No. 2: 5 teams
No. 3: 4 teams
No. 4: 3 teams
No. 5: 1 team
No. 6: 0 teams
No. 7: 2 teams
No. 8: 4 teams
No. 9: 2 teams
No. 10: 2 teams
No. 11: 3 teams
No. 12: 3 teams
No. 13: 2 teams
No. 14: 1 team

Of the Top 13 teams in total points, they drafted from 11 different spots, which I think is amazing. They came from the following spots in order: 2, 8, 4, 13, 9, 5, 1, 11, 14, 12 and 10. The only spot not represented in the Top 36 was No. 6, whose highest ranking was 60th overall. Wild.

A total of 57 teams will be in the Championship Round this year and 307 teams will be in the Consolation Round. We have 26 leagues and the top two teams automatically earned spots in the Championship Round and five teams made the cut by finishing third in their league but in the Top 36 overall. They include:

Victory Babal, Chicago 2, 35th overall with 1,793.60 points
Jan & Claire Gustafson, LV 5, 36th overall with 1,792.45 points

Wow, great job all, and way to cut it close Victor and Jan & Claire!!! Right at the cutoff for your teams.

Okay, 15 of the 26 leagues have already been decided as the best head-to-head record also had the most total points. Congratulations to the 15 owners who will be receiving a check for $5,000 in the next week. You definitely earned it.

That means that 11 leagues will have a mini-playoff to determine the league champion, a new process we instituted this year. Our average of 58% for h2h champ and total points champ is very consistent with past years, so we're glad to add this extra layer of league playoffs to determine this year's league champ. Teams that were h2h champ and total points champ will now compete through Weeks 14-16 for most total points to determine the league champ and the winner of the remaining $2,500 since each team has already secured $2,500 each. We ARE NOT carrying in your weekly scoring average into these league playoffs, so it's just most total points in Weeks 14, 15 and 16. Good luck all.

Interestingly, 11 of 26 leagues (42%) had ties for best records. Chicago League 3 had four teams at 9-4, Chicago 3 had three teams at 10-3, New York 7 had three teams at 9-4 and eight other leagues had two-way ties. Here's the breakdown of each NFFC main event league:

NY 1: two teams at 9-4, one was first in total points
NY 2: one at 10-3, 1st in points
NY 3: one at 11-2, 1st in points
NY 4: one at 12-1, 1st in points
NY 5: two teams at 9-4, 2nd in points
NY 6: two teams at 9-4, 2nd in points
NY 7: three teams at 9-4, 1st in points
NY 8: one at 10-3, 2nd in points
NY 9: one at 10-3, 2nd in points

CHI 1: one at 12-1, 1st in points
CHI 2: one at 10-3, 1st in points
CHI 3: four teams at 9-4, 1st in points
CHI 4: three teams at 10-3, 1st in points
CHI 5: one at 11-2, 2nd in points
CHI 6: one at 10-3, 4th in points

LV 1: two teams at 10-3, 3rd in points
LV 2: one at 11-2, 2nd in points
LV 3: one at 11-2, 2nd in points
LV 4: two teams at 9-4, 1st in points
LV 5: two at 10-3, 1st in points
LV 6: two at 10-3, 3rd in points
LV 7: one at 10-3, 1st in points
LV 8: two at 10-3, 1st in points

Tam 1: one at 11-2, 3rd in points
Tam 2: one at 11-2, 1st in points
Tam 3: one at 10-3, 6th in points

Just a final note: Only two teams that won h2h finished out of the Top 3 in total points. The Chicago 6 h2h champ finished fourth in total points as the total points leader was one game behind at 9-4, while in Tampa 3 the h2h champ finished sixth in total points while the total points leader was one game back at 9-4.

Ok Greg, so could you please explain to me how Chicago 3's situation is going to work with 4 teams tied at 9-4. From what I gather the team with the most total points to finish the regular season (our team) gets $2500. Then we have to battle it out with the other 3 teams for the $2500 and title of league champ. Is that correct?

It's funny that the 2 spot had the most teams at the top when Jackson was the pick. I guess their other players stayed pretty healthy.

Tom, I should be the FOURTH Wild Card team making it 56 teams total. I finished 30th Overall but 2nd in points in Tampa 1 & the H2H winner was 3rd in points. So Superpions gets in via H2H & Rabid Belkas gets in by total points. I get in by finishing in the top 36...

Hmmm. Shouldn't Golden Tornado (in our Chicago 6) make it as well? GT finished 28th in total points but 2nd in Chicago 6 in points. The H2H winner is Chicago 6 was 4th in points.

You get it all ($5,000) and don't have to sweat out another 3 weeks.

Congrats! :D
