Phillip Rivers Implosion

Wow, I have never seen two sides of one player, like Phillip Rivers in the first half and the second half of tonight's game. Peyton Manning continues to prove that the game is never over when he is in control... Oh yeah and the Denver defense did a pretty good job as well in the 2nd half.

He and Tony Romo have to be related. :P

Tonight is a great reason why we should severely penalize horrible performances in the NFL for fantasy purposes. He completely cost his team that game with 4 INT's and 2 lost fumbles.....yet he still scored 18+ points.

I dont understand the play calling though. All they needed to do after Denver scored the 1st TD, was possess the ball, run it, call some short safe passes or screens, take about 7-8 minutes of the clock, and kick a FG, score a TD, or punt it and pin Denver deep.

Instead, SD kept trying to pass it. Rivers panicked and they decided to chuck it 30 yards down field to keep getting picked off.

Also, they have no left tackle, so you would think they wouldve helped protect Rivers blind side or rolled him out, but no. More strip sacks.

Norv needs to go. He has worn out his welcome.

Booyah!
Greg and Tom --- take a look at this one. We really do need some scoring tweaks for next year, BWazz is right on the money here. No way should a Rivers owner get 18 points for tonight's "performance".....

Things that don't matter in fantasy football:

1) Character issues (see Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant, et al)

2) Poor real-life QB performances (see Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, et al)

3) Logical start/sit lineup decisions (too many examples to list)

i agree with you on this billy but where do set the line for int. if you have a qb throw a hail mary at the half then throw one during the game after playing well then throw another hail mary at the end of the game that would be 3 int's. on paper it looks bad but real life not really that bad. i agree that 18pts from rivers last night is crazy but before making a change it would have to be tweeked some.

Philip Rivers was featured in this week's Sports Illustrated. He wasn't on the cover, so you can't call it an SI cover jinx, but just the article enough lifted his ego to a level that predicted this implosion.

Again, if people want more negative points we can provide it, but I'm not sure that's the goal. You could certainly set up a game where you tier more minus points with each turnover (INTs and fumbles for QBs, fumbles for RBs, WRs, QBs and TEs), but I'm not sure if that improves the game. How many HSFF games add negative points again? Yes, Rivers scored more fantasy points than Eli this week and for a half there was a reason why he accumulated more fantasy points than Eli. Then he cost his team the game with 5 second half turnovers. They hurt fantasy teams, too, but if you want more punishment than that we can look into it. I'm just not sure it improves the game.

Just as every touchdown and every yard are worth the same during the course of the game (no bonuses) I think the negative for turnovers should remain consistent. I don' think a sliding scale is the answer. I think you simply make turnovers a - 2. This would accomplish what some are looking for.

I think you should have to cringe a little when your QB throws an interception or you're running back fumbles, -1 does not accomplish that. Right now it's like, ok, lets get the ball back and have another go at it. Just food for thought for next year. It's not that big a deal either way for me.
