Where Would Josh Gordon Go Today In The NFFC?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Dec 02, 2013 2:25 pm

I was asked this morning on the SiriusXM Rotowire Fantasy Daily show where I thought Josh Gordon would go in NFFC drafts if they were held today. I said not among the Top 5 wideouts, but definitely Top 10. My feeling is that there are just too many stud receivers for Gordon to go in the Top 5 in 2014. But am I wrong?

After all, Gordon is second behind Calvin Johnson among WRs in NFFC scoring with 234.1 points, or 23.4 points per game. Only Megatron is averaging more points per game than Gordon as Julio Jones was averaging 22.1 ppg before his injury. Knowing all of that, would you put him in the Top 5 among WRs if we drafted today?

Let's see, we have: Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshall, Demaryius Thomas, A.J. Green......Josh Gordon?? Would you put him ahead of Thomas and Green?? Does Alshon Jeffrey slip in here? Interesting.

As Chris Liss said today, "start some drafts today Greg and I bet you'd fill them!!" I agree, let's start a draft today. This first round this year is going to be crazy interesting after so many Running Backs failed miserably this year. I can't wait to see what the first round looks like in 2014.

Anyway, let's have some fun and talk about Gordon's value in 2014. Where would you list him among WRs in 2014? And do you trust him to stay out of trouble between now and Week 1?

No I don't trust him to stay out of trouble between now and week 1...no way I'd put him ahead of AJ Green...but I would over Brandon Marshall.

I'm a Julio Jones Fan Boy so it'd be tough to put Gordon ahead of Julio, who I have ranked No. 2 behind Megatron. I have Dez third (he and Julio are pretty much interchangeable for me). After that, I would probably put Gordon fourth. One thing to keep in mind is Eric Decker is a FA after this season. If the Broncos don't keep him, that should make Demaryius Thomas even more appealing - and he's already really good to begin with. But assuming Decker stays in Denver I could see my Top 10 WRs looking something like this for next season:

1. Calvin
2. Julio
3. Dez
4. Gordon
5. A.J. Green
6. Demaryius Thomas
7. Brandon Marshall
8. Jordy Nelson
9. Antonio Brown
10. Andre Johnson

Does that fantasy insurance apply if Gordon gets suspended for the season? ;)

Good topic guys, should have more like this on the boards then a lot of the crap people been posting lately. I'd put Gordon in the 8-10 range as of right now after Calvin, Dez, D.Thomas, AJ Green, Julio (as long as he shows me hes fine in preseason off surgery) B.Marshall, and probably Jordy. I'd put him befor Brown and Andre Johnson based based on his age going into next yr. I would worry about whose throwing to Gordon as well as him being a 2x drug violater. All guys on the above list have Good to great QB'S throwing them the ball with the exception of Dalton but A.J just a superior talent.

The fact Gordon has been so good with a motley crew of QBs is what impresses me the most. Imagine how good he could be if he ever had a big-time NFL quarterback.

Sounds about right...I'd put Antonio Brown and Alshon Jeffery both ahead of Gordon..Brown is just entering his prime and a PPR beast.

I Tweeted this out last week but the WR position looks insanely deep again next year. There could be plenty of WR1-type players available in Rounds 3-5. The 10 guys I listed should all be WR1s but you also have guys like Jeffery, Fitz, Cobb, Harvin (if healthy), Garcon, VJax, Cruz, DeSean Jackson, Decker, Welker, Torrey Smith and youngsters like Keenan Allen, Kendall Wright, Michael Floyd and TY Hilton who are all looking real good as well. We know Jimmy Graham is locked in as a Top 15 pick in all probability and I could see Gronk rejoining him there. Lots and lots and lots of high-end receiving options will be available next year.

Weedin can throw the ball at least. Good fit when he locks on and is comfortable letting Gordon make plays. In real football it is why he obviously blows though. Far too dangerous attempts.

Here's one more question then involving 2014: How many WRs go in the first round this year? Do we still go after the top RBs early in the first round or is more attention given to WRs who can score 300+ points per year? I know we saw Megatron and Dez Bryant going in the first round this year, but will we see more WRs going in the first round in 2014? How many could crack the Top 12 or Top 14 next year?
