3-City Draft Champions Leagues In 2014

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jan 30, 2014 3:51 pm

We are already getting ready for the start of the 2014 NFFC season and will have the new web site and Registration updated in the next week. We're not going to wait around this year, so be ready everyone. Draft Champions Leagues will also start sooner than ever and we'll get that Trendsetters League on the NFFC site hopefully before you start the second month of drafting.

With all of that in mind, I started thinking back to the early NFFC days when participants in the three cities would brag about which city was a tougher market to compete in. Heck, we even had a 3-city battle in the Draft Champions format with everyone competing individually and then the 4-team combos adding up their scores to see which "relay team" was the best. It's a format I enjoyed for the Message Board banter and would like to recreate in 2014.

Here's how I envision it: We run it as a normal $1,000 Draft Champions League with the same league prizes and then the NFFC will award an additional $350 or a free Online Championship team in 2015 to the four owners who finish with the top city score. It would be a $1,400 bonus to those "city champions". Could be pretty cool.

Anyway, just something to think about this off-season. I have a feeling some of you could recruit some pretty tough four-somes to tee off with!! It's things like this that we want to bring back to the NFFC in 2014. Let's start with this idea and keep things rolling.

If anyone wants to captain New York, Chicago or Las Vegas, speak up and you can start recruiting for your city. Could be fun. Thanks all.

Would that sort of be like a East Coast, Midwest, West Coast grouping? Just a thought since not everyone is from those 3 states.

Right, why not Indianapolis? Forget Chicago! That place is full of hot air!! (windy, get it?? ) Okay bad joke..
Seriously though, I think Indy could be a hot spot for drafts here in the midwest, during the combine? That would be fun!

I'll bet I can get 12 guys together from the Mid West. I nominate Indianapolis!

It's a neat concept Greg, but with Chicago barely hanging on (is Chicago even going to have live main drafts in 2014?) I'm not sure this will work the way it worked "way back when".

Are you saying it is a $1000 entry per person?

Ummmm.....west coast would get crushed. Chicago would have to forfeit due to lack of participants.
That leaves the mecca of fantasy football...New York.

Greg, why don't you just give all your east coast drafters a free Online Championship team and save the trouble of having to play it out. ;)

Yes, of course. Mike, you would be West Coast and should captain this team!!

Billy, you were part of Chicago at one time. Grab Wayne and Bill and Mike/Darryl and REPRESENT if you want. C'mon, let's have some fun here. Let others recruit you to their team if needed. I'm letting you guys get the job done and form your foursomes. Have fun with this?

Yes, this would be a normal 12-Team Draft Champions League that we'd host online and pay the Top 3 league finishers just like a normal DC Live event. Then I'll reward the city champs on top of that. Seems like fun and would be the best league for smack talk.

Just an idea. I think we can find 4 owners to represent the Midwest and let all 3 cities recruit you Billy!! 8-)

Aaaaaaaaaahhhh, this is EXACTLY what I had in mind!!! Thanks Glenn. Now let's see if anyone else is ready to join you on the East Coast team. It's time to find 3 East Coast mates that can help you win the relay!!

We know the west coast wouldn't have a chance. I think those guys are all into that medicinal marijuanna now and might struggle to get through 3 rounds. Their team name could be Cheech and Chong.

My understanding is that the east coast guys are all still stuck in traffic. Governor Christie is working it out but they could be there for months. Since they won't have access to cheat sheets this would make them more of a threat than if they were working of of their own projections. But nevertheless, they would just be hoping to finish ahead of the stoners.

Yes we would take Billy as he is a midwesterner at heart. Bring it on!
