Mid-Season Draft Position Bids

Post by JerseyPaul » Mon Oct 04, 2004 7:47 am

Some thoughts....

My pre-draft bids would have been much different in league A where 2 RBs are required. In League B (1 RB required, 2 Flex) I truly don't think it matters as much what position you have. With a late slot there are enough medium level RBs to take one in round 2 while using your first round for a stud QB or WR if that's your preference. That evens things out. You don't have to take somebody on the tail end of the RB run unless you're a confirmed stud RB guy.

My only bid was a modest one for slot 5 to get the last of the quality guys but I didn't bid nearly enough to get even that slot. But that's okay, I'm okay with my 12 slot.

Greg -

There was a mistake ... I should have received the #4 slot for $406, not the #2.

You had the high bid for #2. Nobody else beat your $405 bid for that. Unless Dyv explained the process differently than I used, I went with the high bid for each draft spot and eliminated you after that. I'll post all of the bids here and again if I didn't do it properly, you guys can figure out the draft order and run with it tomorrow. Maybe I'm not getting this right. Good thing I'm just taking the blind bids.

League B coming up......

Here's what I get looking at league A:

Working from the highest bids down, which is the rule:

Hypo $520...get's slot 1
Da Bears $425...get's slot 3
Duke $407 for slot 3 (gone to Bears)
Duke $406 for slot 4..gets slot 4
Dork $301 for slot 7...gets slot 7
Jim H $301 for slot 3...gone
Jim H $286 for slot 4...gone
Jim H $276 for slot 5...gets slot 5
B. Barnard $251 for slot 2...gets slot 2
Brad B $190 for slot 6...gets slot 6 (slot 3/4 gone)
NNOY $125 for slot 8...gets slot 8
Gekko $28 for slot 9...gets slot 9

end of bids

Summary

1 Liquid Hypo
2 Bruce Bernard
3 Bears
4 KJ Duke
5 Jim H
6 Brad Brown
7 Dorkknocker
8 NNOY
9 Gekko

Mid-Season Draft Position Bids

Post by wlfskp » Mon Oct 04, 2004 8:51 am

Yes but it is slot 2 that is the issue....Greg set this up as if everyone ranked their spots 1 to 14 and tok the highest. KJ is looking at it as to priority ofd his bids...thus for him #4 was higher priority than #2. In his mind his #4 bid gets compared first and he wins that one making his #2 etc irrelevant....an interesting issue that needs to be resolved....as they are both correct in their own view....from a very interested observer and proponent of the super flex was sorry to see it go.

Now I'm not sure of this exactly, but isn't bidding on your 14th pick a waste of bid points (even if it is only 1).

If it gets to the point where you get that last spot, you would have it for 0, because every one else has their pick.

I agree. KJ Duke should get pick #4 because that was his higher priority.

Mid-Season Draft Position Bids

Post by Gordon Gekko » Mon Oct 04, 2004 9:16 am

dyv posted the clean version of this on the MB last week i believe, but i couldn't find it in the 2 minutes i spent looking. here's the rough draft...

step 1: once all the bids are in, the owner with the highest bid is awarded the associated draft slot. all of that owners other bids are removed from consideration, along with every other owners bids for that specific draft slot.

step 2: owner with the next highest bid gets the
associated draft slot. all of that owners other bids are removed from consideration, along with every other owners bids for that specific draft slot.

step 3: keep going until you either fill all draft slots or are left with a couple draft slots that weren't bid on. if all draft slots are determined, you are done. if they aren't, proceed to step 4.

step 4: have greg/tom put names of the remaining
owners who don't have a draft slot yet into a hat and randomly assign the remaining draft slots.
