Let's Talk NFFC Classic: 14 Team Leagues Available

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Aug 21, 2015 7:29 am

Back in 2004 when we created the National Fantasy Football Championship, we had this crazy idea to make one of the toughest competitions in the industry. We had debuted in baseball with a 15-team format and decided to debut in football with a unique 14-team format. It was something new at a time when there was already a 12-team live events contest and we had great hope for it.

We guaranteed the $100,000 grand prize in 2004 and fell short of our goals, but the 224 owners who participated in that event just loved the competition and we were on to something special. We grew that format over the first five years to where we reached 364 teams in 2007, but when we added the 12-Team Primetime in 2008 it gave owners a second option. Soon the Primetime grew bigger than the Classic and the 14-team format struggled, attracting only 252 teams last year.

This year we are back with an $80,000 grand prize and we already have over 200 teams signed up. We are again shooting for at least 252 teams and have time to make that happen. If you're looking to try the purest high-stakes game right now with no ADPs, no previous results, and like the challenge of a great format with fantastic ROI and an attainable grand prize then the Classic is for you.

Think about it, everyone is going into the Classic basically virgins this year to the 14-team format!! I mean, virgins for this year in the 14-team format. We don't have any full 14-team Satellite Leagues yet, but I'd love to see us fill some up before then. Give me a date that works for everyone and I'll push it hard. Here are a few options:

9 PM ET, Wednesday, August 26, 2015
1 PM ET, Saturday, August 29, 2015
8 PM ET, Saturday, August 29, 2015
1 PM ET, Sunday, August 30, 2015
8 PM ET, Sunday, August 30, 2015
8 PM ET, Monday, August 31, 2015
9 PM ET, Tuesday, September 1, 2015
8 PM ET, Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Let's pick a couple of dates with NFFC veterans to battle in a $125 14-team format and let's pop the cherry!! Let's see what these 14-teamers look like.

Okay, let me ask you some questions:

* What is your KDS going to look like in the Classic? If people like the back of the draft in the 12-teamer, how badly are they going to want 3 of the top 29 picks in the 14-teamer?

* Do you still wait on QBs in the 14-teamer or do Luck and Rodgers get pushed up even more with 2 more QBs?

* With so many question marks after the first 9 WRs, do we see those top tier WRs get pushed up into the early first round or are the RBs even harder to find in this format?

Lots of interesting questions this year. It's a fun, fun format, but a difficult one this year. Good luck all and enjoy.

I'd love to use this thread to talk about the 14-team format. It's such a great format and we'd love to see more talk on this. We know everyone is keeping their strategies secret, but what the hell, let's talk about some of them. The third and fourth rounds are really going to be interesting in this format, don't you think? The strong will survive here.

We know there's been a churn rate in the Classic and we thank all of our loyal die-hards who have stuck with us through 12 years of intense competition. The 12-teamer appeals to the masses and we can't fight it. But we see a market for this format and we want to grow it. We'll be around for years to come if we can reach our goals in the Classic this year, so let's get these final leagues filled and have some fun.

It's going to be a wild year in all drafts this year, but the strategies will surely be intense in the 14-team format. If you win here, YOU'VE REALLY DONE YOUR JOB. Now, who has the courage to jump in and take down the Classic's $80,000 grand prize? :D

Remember, 18 leagues with 3 Championship Round qualifiers means that if you can just finish in the Top 3 in your league you have a 1 in 54 chance of winning the $80,000 grand prize. There isn't another contest in the industry with better odds than that. It's not easy, but if you can get to the Championship Round and get hot for 3 weeks, the grand prize is all yours. Sounds simple, but nothing is easy. Good luck all and please let's start some dialogue on the Classic. I want to hear from all of you about the format, the strategies, the KDS and more. Thanks all and good luck this year.

your right Tom it's the best format. it's what I even run my home league. and actually im not sure where to pick yet. I personally think I may move up in the draft order and go for a top 6 guy. but I'll have to look at the adp and get an idea where I can land some good value.
