NFFC Message Boards

We've had a lot of talk about the NFFC, but we haven't heard from the Auction League participants yet. I'm looking for some feedback from those participants and how they like the Auction League setup. Any input is appreciated.

I just went to the standings for all three Auction Leagues and each one is incredibly close. Looks like a lot of 4-3 teams and 3-4 teams. If nothing else, it certainly shows that the Auction League format keeps the talent pool closer together among teams.

So what do you think? Is the Auction League as much fun if not more fun than the NFFC (without the big prize, of course)? I'm looking for feedback. Thanks.

auctions are the best format. there really aren't any complaints, except we didn't have an FSX girl posting the players. i'd pay a little extra next year to have a nude fsx girl post players.

in time i think the straight drafts will be eliminated. the sheep need to be brought up to speed. auctions are 5000% more exciting than a draft.

We could have asked Rob Konitzer to go naked during the draft as he posted the stickers, but I don't think that would have had the same effect, right? I'm working on the FSX girls to come back to Vegas in March for our baseball event right now and I'll let you know how I make out. That just might be enough to get you back to Vegas in March, right?

As you know, we didn't plan on having those nice ladies posting the stickers, but they hung around after our Fantasy Sports Trade Conference and their bosses wanted to see how our event was run. I said they could attend if they volunteered the sticker girls and I think everyone was happy with the tradeoff. I think FSX will be involved in some way next March with the NFBC and hopefully again in September for the NFFC as those guys seem to have a future in this industry.

Now back to the Auction League.....man, that Vegas one looks mighty, mighty close. Seems like everyone is either 4-3 or 3-4. Gotta like the competition.

Greg, really in favor of the auction format, it was Marc and I's first auction. I always wanted to play but didn't have the owners to do so...excuses as usual auction takes too long, it like playing poker..etc..etc...etc....we thought it was our worst draft but it seeems as it turned out to be one of our better...it does give everyone an oppurtunity to get all players and keeps the criers away..noone's fault except your own if you draft a player...I love it ..we'll be back next year for auction for sure...can you please call the Redskin O-line and ask if they can make a hole for Portis...the yards are great but coulda used the three goal line touches to score instead we gotta zip.....

The only thing I'd add would be looking into all-play results at yr-end to see if the best teams made the playoffs.

I enjoyed the Auction Draft the most. Think it is a true keeper. I am unclear on the playoffs. I tried to read the rules. States 6 teams from each division make playoffs. Is that a typo? Seems like three each division, six in each league. Top two by record and top other in points in each division? Greg or Tom can you clarify? Maybe who is in if LV season ended today.

A couple of weeks ago my daddy, Liquid Empire, asked me about the Auction and how I felt about it. Copied here for your edification and amusement is my response to Liquid:

My first Auction was a WCOFF auction last year. It was the most fun I've ever had at a draft. After that I knew I'd be in an Auction every year.

Let me tell you why it's great. First of all you're making decisions every second. In a serpentine draft, expecially with 14 teams, you make a decision then go into hibernation for 10 or 15 minutes. In an Auction you're making decisions constantly. If not on that player, you're looking ahead at what you need, analyzing your budget and planning your end game.

Then there's getting players you want. At slot 12 in NFFC I knew I couldn't get a recognized very good RB. Yes, if I had knowledge of the future I could have taken Tom Jones or Tiki or Curtis but nobody knew that. More likely I could take mediocre guys like Barlow, Dillon, Taylor, etc. I didn't want that so I had to go against the way I really wanted to structure my team. In an auction, you structure your team the way you want.

I wanted a stud RB. I got Priest. I wanted a good second RB, I got Tiki.

WRs are so deep that value always is available. I got Stokely when everybody was broke for $1.

Then there's the poker aspects. You can play the dangerous game of bidding up players. You can be silent early and enter bidding late or you can bid frequently so guys don't know if you're really targetting a particular player...or both. You can use humor to entertain, or humor to deceive.

Bottom line, I love the Auction.

By the way, the gentlemen who was the auctioneer in New York was fabulous. The group was in high spirits and the auctioneer kept the energy high. I loved the way he said "thank you" after each bid.

"$37, thank you.... going once...."

I also loved the way I was outbid for Ron Dayne, sob. Unfortunately, I insisted on bidding to get Larry Johnson, lol.

Yeah, I really struck fantasy gold with my running backs, didn't I? Quentin Griffin and Ron Dayne were the headliners on a boat full of shite.
