Trendsetters 2019

It's that time again everybody. Immediately following SB LIII, we kick off this years version of Trendsetters. A great draft loaded up with very successful owners of the fantasy football world. The 30 round, 14 team DC is done in phases, approximately three weeks between each phase. The first four phases consist of rounds of six, seven, seven, and five, and are completed before the NFL draft. In those rounds we are able to select Rookies (not specific players). After the NFL draft, we take a player for the Rookie spot selected. The remaining five rounds are completed after the Rookie slots are filled following the NFL draft. I post the first few rounds on the MBs for conversation, plus a few of the owners post their respective teams with comments.

Last years league was won by the "tag team" of Jack Haan and yours truly. We trailed by 4.15 points after week 1, took the lead after week 2 and never looked back. I feel privileged with this win as it's probably the only league Mr. Santos didn't win last year. He had a remarkable year, Congrats Mike. Also, Matt Bayley was the overall Cutline champ, Congrats Matt. I could go on and on about this group of owners and their accomplishments, but I'd probably develop a case of carpal tunnel.

Jack and I drafted from the #2 slot, and were fortunate to get TGurley, following up with THill, Cam, ACooper, and MRyan. After the draft, I felt TE's were our weakness, but we drafted EEbron in the 12th. We had three PK's(MBryant, GZuerlein, DCarlson), which at one time or another were either injured or out of a job. One of our D/ST's was Chicago. We were very fortunate to win, I feel like we did it with mirrors.

Phase III starts up this Friday. There've been eight Rookies selected thus far. Of course, we don't know who they are yet, but the combine should have cleared it up a little. We'll see later.

WyldNatyon thru 13 rounds

Qb...CWentz, MTrubisky, M Stafford (3 starters in a 14 teamer, we decided to go this route and not have to bother with this position going forward)
Rb...MGordon, KJohnson, DLewis (we wanted Rb with pick 6, KJ "COULD" be a 3 down back, Lewis was perhaps best RB OTB in Rd13, we needed one)
WR...AThielen, CGodwin, CKirk, KCoutee (PPR monster Thielen, Godwin and Kirk in new offenses, Coutee could breakout this year)
TE...DNjoku (Everybody thinks Baker is going to breakout, why not this guy being a recipient)
PK...BMaher, MCrosby (Maher was a rollercoaster, he missed 1 XP and 7 FGs, but was 6 of 7 from 50+ yards...Crosby missed 2 XPs, was 5 of 7 from 50+)
D/ST...

The next phase is seven rounds..

My team through 13 rounds from the 7 spot

QB Goff, Dalton

RB Bell, Mixon, K Hunt, Burkhead

WR Edelman, Boyd, jeffery, Z Jones, A Humphries

TE J.Cook

K Vinatieri

I literally flipped a coin in the first round over Bell and Dhop so this team could have looked a lot different. I do like my RB's a lot. The hunt situation
is a wildcard. I actually like this team a lot better than my trendsetters teams the last couple of years so we shall see what happens. I'm ready for phase 3.

We finished Phase III a few days ago, twenty rounds complete. Phase IV starts in a couple weeks, we'll draft five more rounds leading up to the NFL draft. After the NFL Draft, we'll fill our Rookie slots and finish with five more rounds, making it thirty total rounds.

During Phase III, we went through the D/ST run of the draft and tried to build some depth with our team. We selected 2 D's, 2 RB's, 2 WR's and 1 TE in this phase.

D/ST...Den, Car

RB...Mike Davis was productive in the muddled Sea backfield last year averaging 4.5 y/att with 32 catches. His move to Chicago could give him some sleeper potential if/when JHoward is gone. The Bears will probably draft or bring in someone else to compete with Davis.

RB...Theo Riddick is 28 and still the 3rd down back in Det. With 60+ catches last year, hopefully a good complement to KJ.

WR...Albert Wilson has a lot of upside. He was on/off the field last year, only played in seven games, but was a Top 5 WR in two of those games.

WR...Taylor Gabriel played in 80% of the snaps last year, close to 100 targets, was used on a few running plays, also.

TE...Greg Olsen. Oft injured, considered retirement (may still), but maybe worth a shot. He had a five week span from weeks 6-10 where he played 95% of the snaps, caught 20 of 28 targets and 3 TDs. Ian Thomas is obviously the TE of the future, but maybe Olsen will give us a couple good games in probably his swansong year.

Our team after 20 rounds

QB...CWentz, MTrubisky, MStafford
RB...MGordon, Kjohnson, DLewis, MDavis, TRiddick
WR...AThielen, CGodwin, CKirk, KCoutee, AWilson, TGabriel
TE...DNjoku, GOlsen
D/ST...Denver, Carolina
PK...BMaher, MCrosby
