Randy Mechels Wins 2022 NFFC Classic Title

Randy Mechels of Long Prairie, Minnesota became our 19th different champion in the 19 years that we've hosted the NFFC Classic Championship as his team captured the FREE 2023 NFFC Classic entry, valued at $2,000. All prize money this year was distributed through the league prizes with first place in each league earning $16,000 and only the one prize in the overall competition.

Randy's team likely would have won the title even without the NFL cancelling the Monday Night Game. His team was 21.53 points ahead of Chad Schroeder heading into the Monday Night Game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals and he had no players in that game. Chad had the Bengals' defense, so there was a chance that he could have caught him, but nobody else in the Top 9 had a single player going that night. As we all know, the injury to Damar Hamlin stopped the Monday Night Game and today the NFL decided to cancel the game and not make it up. No stats from that shortened Monday Night Game were used in the NFFC because the NFL completely cancelled that game.

Randy's team Top Gun & Roses won his Classic Online September 10th league title and $16,000 with an 11-3 record, while finishing second overall in points. Top Gun & Roses then scored 147.10 points in Week 15 to drop to eighth place before scoring 156.65 points in Week 16 to move up to fourth place. In Week 17, he won the overall title with 199.80 points, the highest score for the week.

Top Gun & Roses was led by Tom Brady with 48 points in Week 17, followed by Davante Adams with 34.30 points, Green Bay's defense with 24 points and DeVonta Smith with 20.50 points. Randy beat a field of 21 teams in the Championship Round as the 2022 season consisted of 98 teams and seven leagues. We paid the Top 3 teams in each league and those 21 teams advanced to the Championship Round. It's amazing that we still have not had a repeat overall champion in our signature 14-team national championship, but I promise we will return for a 20th season using this same prize format.

Randy Mechels became our 19th different NFFC Classic champion in 19 seasons after winning the 2022 NFFC Classic title. That's pretty remarkable that no owner has ever been able to repeat as champion of our unique 14-team format. This is our signature event and definitely one of the toughest titles to win in the industry.

This season marked the first time that we put all of the prize money into the league prizes, with first place earning $16,000. Randy did win his league title and that $16,000 prize and he also won a FREE 2023 NFFC Classic entry valued at $2,000. He's the first entrant into the 2023 Classic and maybe he will be the first past champion to repeat. We'll find out in another year!!
