Peter Jennings Wins 2022 NFFC Cutline Championship & $100,000

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Jan 06, 2023 3:39 pm

Peter Jennings of Las Vegas, Nevada won the 2022 NFFC Cutline Championship and that $100,000 grand prize with his only Cutline team of the season. Peter beat a field of 2,120 teams to win the grand prize as his team was consistently at the top of the standings all year long. When the final table of 12 owners was completed on Monday Night, Peter was standing at the top and holding the $100,000 grand prize.

The NFFC Cutline Championship was one contest where the cancellation of the Monday Night Game likely didn't change the overall champion, although we don't know that for sure. Peter's team finished 28.12 points ahead of Fred Pagani for the title, but Fred still had Buffalo's kicker going. It would have been tough to score 28.12 points from a kicker, but anything is possible. Chad Schroeder finished fifth in the final standings, but his team was 100.88 points out of the lead and he still had Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins. Unlikely that they could have posted 100+ points, but certainly possible and definitely possible that Chad could have moved into the Top 3 and maybe even Top 2.

But we'll never know because the NFL cancelled the Bills-Bengals Monday Night Game last night. Of course that game was stopped in the middle of the first quarter when Damar Hamlin was seriously injured and the league chose not to resume the game at a later date. No stats from that shortened Monday Night Game were used in the NFFC because the NFL completely cancelled that game.

Peter's team "The Fish" won his September 2nd Cutline league title and the $350 league prize, while finishing second overall at the end of the regular season with 1,955.90 points. The Fish fell to 93rd overall after Week 2, but survived the first "cut" and then was 33rd overall after the second "cut" of Week 14. The Fish rose to 7th after Week 15 and entered the final table of 12 in Week 17 after leading everyone through Week 16. His team scored 182.90 points in Week 16 and then finished with the most points in Week 17 with 201.10.

The NFFC Cutline Championship is a unique 10-team format where you have to finish in the Top 5 of your league to advance to the playoffs and Top 2 to get into the Championship Round. Then you have to survive the cut through Weeks 11-12, Weeks 13-14 and then again in Weeks 15 and 16. Peter did all of that to win the $100,000 grand prize against 11 other teams in Week 17. Great fun.

Fred Pagani finished second and won $25,000, while Tom Zarogiannos finished third to win $17,500. Rounding out the Top 6 were Russel Smith ($15,000), Chad Schroeder ($12,000) and Henry Muto ($10,000)

This was Peter's only entry in the 2022 Cutline Championship. He did have six Rotowire Online Championship teams and one Guillotine, but he turned that single Cutline entry into the $100,000 grand prize. This marks the second straight year that an owner won the Cutline overall title with only one entry. Steve Merrifield did the same thing last year.

Wow. We will be back with the Cutline in 2023 with another $100,000 grand prize and we expect a record year for this contest. It's so good. Thanks all and congrats to everyone who won money in this contest.
