Michael O'Brien of Lakewood, Colorado won an NFFC national championship in 2023 when he won the NFFC's Online Auction Championship, topping 840 teams for that title. Then in 2024, he took his auction game to the next level as he won the NFFC 14-Team Super Auction League title and that $16,500 prize. Those are two auction titles you definitely want to hang your hat on.
As the late, great Jared Danielsen used to tell me, "The 14-Team Super Auction League is the toughest league in the industry and whoever wins that title deserves NFFC Hall of Fame consideration." Jared LOVED this contest and so do all of our veterans who come back year-in and year-out. And he's right, this is one of the toughest leagues in the industry and the champion SHOULD be honored in a special way. Michael was actually one of our newest members to this tough contest, but he made the most of his entry by moving from the fourth seed in the Championship Round to the title by Week 17.
Michael's "Mile High Leapers" went 5-9 during the regular season, but still finished fourth in points with 1,924.90. He made the Championship Round by just 6.8 points, but was 131.75 points behind David Kheel, who won $5,000 for best record and most points during the regular season. David's team finished 10-4 and had 2,056.65 points. Also reaching the Championship Round were Joe Nowak and Chris Eibl, who finished second and third, respectively, in points.
But Michael's Mile High Leapers quickly jumped into the lead by scoring 179.95 points in Week 15. The Leapers stayed in first place through Week 16 by scoring 159.60 points and then added 152.95 points in Week 17 to finish with a winning total of 629.99. Kheel finished second with 625.25 points -- just 4.74 points behind O'Brien -- to win another $6,000, while Nowak finished third to win $2,750. Eibl earned $500 for finishing fourth. Michael was actually trailing Kheel by 20 points heading into the final game of the season on Monday Night, but Jameson Williams got 24.50 points against the Niners to vault the Leapers into first place and earn Michael his first title in this 14-Team Super Auction League.
Williams led the Mile High Leapers in Week 17, while Mike Evans added 29.7 points and Philadelphia's defense provided 23.0. Also helping the cause were Garrett Wilson with 18.6, Jordan Love 17.85 and Chase Brown 13.1. Well done Michael and congrats.
Great job everyone and let's do it again in September!!! This is one of the toughest leagues we offer and we always host it on Thursday morning in Las Vegas on Second Weekend. In 2025, it will again be hosted at Park MGM on September 4th. Here's the final 2024 standings as we paid the Top 4 teams in the Championship Round:
