NFFC Entry Fee?

Post by Gordon Gekko » Fri Dec 08, 2006 10:26 am

Greg,
Any thoughts on raising the main event entry fee to something like $1,500? With the WCOFF experiencing so many problems this year, I expect some people to be shopping around next year. My worry is that the NFFC Grand Prize and the league prizes aren't big enough to lure them when compared to the wcoff's prizes.

i believe the market is ripe for someone to capture the wcoff jumpers. $1,500 is clearly not an obstacle to them, as they are paying in excess of $1,600 to join the wcoff.

here are some quick numbers on what a $1,500 entry fee could enable the nffc to do next year...(to make it easy, everything is based on 322 teams)

(322 owners) X ($250 entry fee increase) X (80% of money going to prizes) = $64,500 available money to be distributed into prizes

it could be spread out as such...
$25,000 to increase overall to $125,000
$5,000 to increase 2nd overall to $20,000
$23,000 to add $1,000 to each league champions (would go up to $6,000)
$11,500 to add $500 to each league 2nd place team (would go up to $3,000)

thoughts?

I like it GG if the $1500 is the team rate, that is, Greg gets rid of the extra fee for the extra owner. The limit on draft day would still be two. The extra $250 wouldn't be a deterrent for me, that's for sure, and if it would bring in another 98 owners (7 leagues) to give Greg more flexibility with payouts, so much the better.

NFFC Entry Fee?

I would be for an increase in the entry fee to accomplish similar goals.

I would want to see some of these additional funds go to the following areas: (some stated above)

1) Increase Overall from 100K to ______?

2) Increase the number of folks getting paid in the Championship Round. This year they increased the number of leagues from 20 to 23 and there are 8 spots paid in the end just like last year. The last four only getting to play for free the next year. I would like to see these prizes increase and think they should do so proportionately based on the increase in participants whether or not the fee is changed. Not just the amounts but the number of prizes should increase with increased registration and fees.

3) Then (if anything is left) increase the individual league prizes though I think 3rd place could use a boost more than 1st, especially with 14 teams fighting for these crumbs. Money back or 1000 would be in line in my view for 3rd place. (I might even consider using all 16 weeks to determine 3rd place especially if they go to the 3 week playoff for 1st and 2nd)

I am all for upping the ante in this challenge for the good of all concerned. An extra 250 or even 500 isn't going to turn folks away.

Up the ante to $1500, but keep all prize money the same. Then, hire Jenna Jamison and her friends to put the stickers on the boards.

If we just added $50 per team next year basing everything on 322 teams, we could increase third place league money from $500 to $1,000. I'd probably start there.

Trust me, nobody wants to get the grand prize up more than me, but I'd also like to sell out once, too. There is some discontent elsewhere, but that doesn't mean everyone will leave for a different 14-team league format on a weekend other than the first weekend of the NFL season in Las Vegas! That seems to have an allure to some folks other than our group, which obviously likes to draft before NFL games are actually played! :D

I'm not in favor of outpricing our potential customers, but it's all worth considering. Right now my focus is on creating the best game for our customers and getting more customers than we had this year. Maybe even selling out all of our spots!

Greg - I am with Gecko and the others on this, but I think you should up the League Champs to $6000 (which is the same in the other contest) and then promote the hell out of that plus:
1) drafts before any games
2) longer regular season to determine league prizes
3) NO week off
4) 3RR/KDS offering a fairer draft
5) Free Beers

Wcoff is just stealing any ways. The have that event fee which is a waste of money. Half the people doen't even go. I wasn't impressed by the event at all this year. The NFFC will have a huge growth year soon. I could see it going from 322 to 500 in one season. If that was the case, the prize fund would take care of itself. The problem is alot of players in the Wcoff don't even know about the NFFC.

Greg - increase the entry fee. You aren't out-pricing anyone who wants to join a high stakes event.

Great idea! I doubt many (if any) of the current or future participants would balk at the rate increase as long as 75 percent of that money was going towards the prize pool.

CC's is absolutely correct about WCOFF's mandatory event fee -- what a joke. In particular, the folks in Atlantic City got completely ripped off. For $165, you got a "free" meal consisting of a mini hamburger and 2 chicken wings -- but only if you waited about 20 minutes. Drinks were available at a cash bar -- there were no freebies, including coffee or soft drinks. I think they gave out tickets to a Viewing Party for Sunday's games -- doubt many people went to that. Yep, that's your event right there.

The time is right for the NFFC to explode. Just need the right marketing...

I like it. Bump the entry fee to $1500 and bump the referral to $250. If someone wants to pay the same rate as last year then they need to make it worth your while. Put your loyal soldiers to work and crush the competition in 2007.
