Here are some league stats at the halfway point of the season. The first number is the number of teams within 50 points of the point leader for each league, then league name, point leader, record, point total, and overall rank.
1 - Chicago 1 -Team Thompson- 6-1 - 957.90-12th
1 - Chicago 2 -Fantasyjungle- 7-0 - 980.60- 6th
1 - Chicago 3 -Route Collect- 6-1 - 984.70- 4th
1 - Chicago 4 -She Hate Me - 5-2 - 972.15- 9th
4 - Las Vegas 1 -Hobbits of th- 4-3 - 938.25-22nd
1 - Las Vegas 2 -Lumpys Losers- 5-2 - 980.00- 8th
6 - Las Vegas 3 -LA Lightning - 2-5 - 905.85-41st
1 - Las Vegas 4 -Poop in the C- 5-2 - 962.05-10th
0 - Las Vegas 5 -Team NEW - 7-0 -1098.95- 1st
0 - Las Vegas 6 -Big Mac Attac- 5-2 -1033.55- 2nd
0 - New York 1 -Appleman - 3-4 - 943.80-18th
4 - New York 2 -Sackofpotatoe- 6-1 - 949.35-14th
3 - New York 3 -Dubya is for - 6-1 - 946.75-15th
3 - New York 4 -Team Burns - 4-3 - 946.40-16th
4 - New York 5 -Grizzly Glaze- 6-1 - 946.20-17th
1 - New York 6 -Jones Falls T- 4-3 - 993.75- 3rd
New York is by far the most competitive city, LV3 is the most competitive league (Me, Gekko, and an all-star lineup), and as we stated in a previous thread, Chicago is the place to go next year unless you can get in with the LV5 or 6 bunch.

flawed analysis ... you've got to look at total points scored for all teams within each league as well as standard deviation for each lge. I ran this in baseball, but in football it would be less meaningful statistically because injuries play such a large role.

Nothing flawed about it at all, KJ, but I'll work on total points scored as that may have some relevance. And although there are some hefty battles for second going on in some of these runaway leagues, LV5 for example, Team NEW is 150 points clear of the field and standard deviation will only exaggerate that gap. As for injuries, I don't agree with your argument there as I think it is very meaningful in showing whether teams drafted good depth or in showing how well teams manage their FA pickups. It certainly appears that more teams in some leagues have offset injuries better than others.

It would skew results for that lge versus another lge where those 3 players are all on different teams.
Maybe it all evens out, but I would be skeptical. In baseball, so many games, so many players and far fewer pct of games missed due to injury makes for much better statistical analysis.

You also need to factor in owners who hogged up depth earlier those most. Owners who may have drafted Favre and Vick, or went 4RBs in the first 4-5 rounds or took 4-6 WRs before filling out the rest of thier starters.
The reason I say this is because I was a guy who hogged up players, I drafted 5 starting RBs and hit on alot of my WRs. So I have players on the bench that other teams would normally would be starting.
You need to look at total points and bench points and league points to get an accurate view. You also need to account for injuries because I have a feeling some owners are hurting (pun intended) for RBs. Also, some temas still have to account for byes weeks while others are beyond bye weeks.

I agree with your analysis, KJ, but it is something interesting to look at. I did a little bit more statistical analysis and found the league midpoint score to be 11516 points. The Chicago leagues average 11442, the Las Vegas leagues average 11452, and the New York leagues average 11631. So far the luck and skill seems to be tilted in favor of the NY leagues. It will be interesting to see if that holds true for the last half.

Given that the player pools are virtually identical, all the league total points tells you is how effective the managers have been in getting points into the starting lineup vs. leaving it on the bench.

can't forget about owners that because talent is so thin and with bye weeks, had to start "lesser" players because they didn't have anyone left. Blaylock & Chatman come to mind.
