Each of these leagues has 4 playoff teams, but each has different rules for how to determine which 4 teams make it. I encouraged a good friend to try the NFFC for the first time. I want him to have a good experience and found myself rooting for his team more than my own. If SD kicker scores less than about 17 pts tonight, he finishes 10-3, tied for best record, a head-to-head win over the other 10-3 team and does not make playoffs. It is hard to explain to a newcomer that always had h2h emphasized in local leagues that they can be 10-3 with a win over the other 10-3 team and not even make the playoffs.
In a $500 entry satellite league, two h2h teams do make playoffs and my team is likely to be the 3rd highest pt team and not make playoffs. So my satellite team would make the playoffs under auction rules and my friend's auction team would make playoffs under satellite rules. So, looking at both sides of this, which is fairer? Second h2h team getting in or 3rd points team?? Tough call.. Higher points team is likely more deserving. Team with better breakdown record is surely more deserving team.
Would rather have breakdown be deciding who gets in. But, if breakdown is not used lean toward auction league rules a little more than satellite league rules. But, if h2h is going to matter, should h2h results between 2 teams tied for best h2h record be the tie-breaker instead of points? And if we are going to have h2h matter should the 2nd best h2h record get in the playoffs when 4 teams make playoffs?
In a 14 team league, I would suggest 5 teams making playoffs would be an improvement. Then you could assure the 2nd best h2h record gets in and the 3rd highest pt total is sure to get in.

Would love to see all play (breakdown) be part of this somehow.
Have 3 regular season payouts: best breakdown, best h2h and most points

Having the most points, best record, and/or best all play record over 13 weeks against 13 other teams is a bigger accomplishment than winning a 3 week playoff against a few teams. I would raise the payout for having the best record and most points over 13 weeks and lower the playoff money.

A strong argument against adding a playoff team is that the dominant regular season team could lose out to an "undeserving" team that gets in the playoffs and gets hot over 3 weeks. But the dominant regular season team should make more money from having the most points or best record. Even if they do not win the playoffs they should still make a good profit.

I am not commenting on the payouts and playoff rules for the main events (Classic and Primetime) because I have not participated in those leagues.

In summarry, in 14 team leagues would like to suggest:
1) higher payouts for regular season success
2) 5 playoff teams instead of 4 (so 2nd best h2h and 3rd highest pts get in for sure)
3) have a payout for top breakdown record and maybe one or two playoff spots determined by breakdown
(breakdown is a much better way to detimine a team's success than h2h and is a slightly better indicator than total points, breakdown should matter when payouts and playoff spots are determined)

I think simple is best.

i don't think the current nffc play-off system is overly confusing but the fact people ask questions every year maeans 2 things.

1. people don't read the rules properly.
2. the rules could be explained better.

One thing that absolutely needs to be done is seperate standings for head to head and total points within each league. We need a "who would be in the play-offs if the season ended today' on the standings too.
