This may be construed as a vent post since ...FI$HER... got our asses kicked in Week 8 by the Larry Johnson squad and run over in Week 9 by the LT2 team in NFFC Main (NYLEAGUE9)

First off, I am now glad that Greg has written it in stone that BBDS will not be in the NFFC Main and exclusively used for select satellites. After analyzing and assesing the situation, I am in complete agreement. Let me explain.

I have always claimed I can be successful drafting from anywhere on the draft board. Throw me pick #6, okay..I will deal with it. Put me on the ass-end of the order like the past 2 years in NFFC Main, I will draft accordingly and try to make up ground in Free Agency and wise roster moves. ...FI$HER's... track record in high stakes includes four years of play, and in those years, we have finished most points in our league a total of 3x.

But one thing occured to me yesterday as I watched LT2 roll in for his 38th TD of the year (as it seems). The light bulb popped up over my head and I thought to myself, "Hey, self, you know what....in 11 years of Fantasy Football, you were never so lucky to have a top pick to grab the "consensus" #1 , #2 or maybe #3 guy". You know what I am talking about, the can't miss Running Back (S. Alexander got hurt in 2006, unforseeable!)

I can only imagine getting a top pick. Everyone envies you, be it friends, family, co-workers, random dudes on the message board you never met, possibly women if you are single and looking.... EVERYONE! It must feel like being a lottery winner in the fantasy football sweepstakes. You have a menu that has only filet mignon to choose from. Will it be Marshall Faulk in the late 90's? Perhaps Edge ? How about a Priest Holmes ? Sure! Or maybe Shaun Alexander, a Larry Johnson, or #21 on Chargers, LT2 ? Sounds great to me!

Furthermore, when you have the #1 pick, it makes it VERY easy to flowchart your draft WELL before you step into the draft room on draft day. You can almost be sure of who you will get in 2nd and 3rd rounds, then you can much more easily plan for rounds 4 and 5 as well. I flowcharted with the 13th pick overall, and its freakin hard to know what POS RB will fall to me after watching 12 RB's get ripped off the board in front of me.

Gekk presented the idea of BBDS. I do feel its a great and unique idea, but like Greg, its not for the masses. I can see it being used in an Ultimate League by 14 guys putting up big coin to see who the best of the best is. But BBDS in NFFC Main divisions would spell nightmares across the board, whereas people would bid huge money for top spots and leaving themselves broke to fill in for the massive bye weeks and inevitable injuries. Plus we have banged our heads against the desk and tried to figure out a legit tie-breaker...and right now none exists.

The other thing that comes to mind with BBDS,,, I was thinking that I shouldnt have to pay a premium for a top pick...Heck, everyone else got them for nuttin. Why should I pay my well needed Free Agency Buckeroos for something that was given ON THE ARM for the last 11 years to my competitors? I want a top pick pick for FREE and I will leave that to the luck of Tom pulling it out of his dirty old beat up GB Packers baseball cap. Maybe next year is my time to bask in the top 3 glory.

As of this year, us lowly peasents who picked in the middle and end of the draft have to practically scotch tape 4 RB's together to put a LT2 type player onto the field. In the first two rounds, we gotta pick an inferior RB most likely, and feel better if a Top Tier WR comes to us in the 2nd round. But as we see, Wide Recievers are much easier to find in the 3rd round (where #1 overall is selecting 28th and 29th) as well as in the 4th-5th round (where #1 is picking 56-57). Try to find a servicable RB in the 4th and 5th rounds. I dare ya. LT2 owners scoop up the Kevin Jones, the Chester Taylors, the Frank Gores, etc etc etc.

With that being said, I give Gekk alot more credit winning in 2004 with an LT2-less team. Gekk got hot when it counted and he will be the poster boy of "the potential NFFC dream" to us bottom feeding suckas at the lower picks.

As I mentioned, anyone can win NFFC from any draft slot. But the 4 to 14 slots...LETS KICK SOME A$$ against these spoon fed 1 to 3's !!!!!

Nice post!

I agree that random "luck" is plenty fair in draft slot selection and league placement.

The thought of a dumba$$ drafter using all $1000 of his FA$$ does two things i do not like...

1) Guarantees him his top selection each year.

2) Guarantees his league is easier to dominate due to that same player having no FA to select.

Start round Three with Pick 14. Flip flop from there.

It's never been the #1 pick. It's usually the picks at round 3 and/or 5 that MAKE the #1 pick a great pick.

1) 1-14
2) 14-1
3) 14-1
4) 1-14
5) 14-1, and so on....

Use KDS with this and you'll see lists all over the place.

We're talking about enhanced draft strategy here.

A concept that is simple to explain.

You're welcome. I thought of the same thing in the midst of our debates last week. I agree, it would would be an improvement over what we have now, and if its more feasible for Greg to implement this I'd be all over it.

But isn't this counter to all your arguments that draft slot doesn't matter? It is the equivalent of you admitting that high slots are inherently advantaged.

I think you mentioned that you were in WCOFF in 2002. I am guessing you have been in NFFC since inception, 2004 , 2005 , & 2006.

In those 4 years, where did you draft from and how did your teams do ?

I am only referring to Main events, not the satellites.

I am only referring to Main events, not the satellites. Sucking this year. 14th pick. I'm in league with Jules. lost by .45 to her on last sec WR sub. I'm glad it could help her now.

7-6 last year in league with GG, Zman, Meat. 6th pick.

First year, finished 3rd and had 6 major injuries Week 2 and rallied like crazy Weeks 10-13. I'da loved to see what my rank was those 4 weeks. I was in 11th and finished 3rd. 5th pick. Duece went down.

Wcoff... forget what pick,.500 .I think I was in a league with 3intboy.

Last year, I did very well in most of my leagues. This year, the opposite.

I brought this up because I do it in hoops, where I have 100% proof that it did matter, mainly because player performances are 1000% more predictable in hoops. i.e. L.james' worst game is still better than 98% of ALL player game performances for the year.

IN FB, picks are only better in hindsight and they change every year.

That's a decent idea.
Let me tweak it for you a little.

We all know you can win from the last few picks also. So your example would give way too much of a boost to those at the end.

Switch them in round 11, and you may be on to something.

And here's one better!
The reason you have an equal number of players on teams is so the guy that picks first, picks last in the last round. And the guy that picks last, picks first in the last round.
With the switch in round 11, we could be the only fair game with an odd number of players, and we can add one more bench spot. So you can carry an extra kicker etc. That would help alot going into the playoffs.

I proposed this last year ... everyone I talked to about this on this MB thought it Hurt the #1 pick too much ... many thought it would be too hard to decide which slot was better ... the #1 or the #14.

I thought that was the point ... personally this would make things fair enough and should really make everyone happy but the guys who want a built in advantage for someone.
