I think that Rodgers is the greatest QB in Packer history. Better than Starr, and much better than Favre.
Favre would often hurt his team with poor decisions and reckless play. Yes, people enjoyed how Favre would excitedly create plays with a sandlot approach to the game, resulting in heart-stopping action. But Rodgers rarely hurts his team with his very professional approach. His football IQ blows Favre away. I'd take Rodgers over Favre every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
You can't help but respect Rodgers in every way, both on and off the field. By the way, he's very religious but quietly goes about living his life by example without the need to vocalize his beliefs with every interview. He's the role model for young people that everyone should be talking about instead of you-know-who.
Greg and Tom...any thoughts on that?

It's always difficult to compare talent across decades, but i do believe talent is relative to generations. That being said, whenever Rodgers wins multiple championships, I'll consider comparing him to Bart Starr. Starr won 5 World Championships in 7 years. Rodgers is undoubtedly one of the most accurate passers and leaders of his time, but to say he's the best QB in Packer history at this point of his young career is a bit of a reach for me.

There was a great story in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel recently which compared Rodgers' production to Favre and pointed out how great Favre really was in comparison. I think a lot of people have forgotten Favre's greatness due to all the off-the-field stuff that surrounded him in recent years. But when Favre was at his best, he was one of the best QBs of all time. He also did something Rodgers never had to do - he transformed a team from a loser into a winner. As great as Rodgers has been, he inherited a team that had a strong history of success due to what Favre helped establish during his time in Green Bay.
The "Who's The Best?" discussions are always fun and an inherent part of sports. But as a Packer fan, there's no question in my mind that Favre is the greatest player in team history when you combine everything he accomplished both in terms of performance but also in terms of re-positioning this long-dormant team as a championship contender again. Rodgers has also proven to be a sensational Hall of Fame QB and at his current pace will join Starr and Favre (once he's inducted) in the Hall of Fame.
I'm just happy that this team has been able to produce three of the best QBs of all time. As far as Rodgers goes, what will interest me most (beyond attempting to win another Super Bowl) is seeing how many people elect to take him with the No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts next year over Arian Foster.

Greg and Tom...any thoughts on that? The incredible thing about this discussion Paul is that the Packers have had two decades of success with just two MVP-caliber and potential Hall of Fame quarterbacks. They have both been amazing and trust me, Packer fans don't take either of them for granted. Why?
Because after Bart Starr retired we went TWO DECADES searching for a QB. Nobody could replace Starr and trying to fill his shoes made every QB after that fail. We traded a franchise of picks just to get an aging John Hadl. Heck, I remember when we traded a second-round pick for Jim Del Gazo, a left-hander from the Dolphins with a bigger moustache than I have. Yes, Lynn Dickey was great in the mid-80s, but then we didn't have a defense and we went 8-8 every year. Nobody could really replace Starr and the franchise was stuck in neutral with a fan base that was just craving for a return to the '60s.
Favre, Wolf and Holmgren changed everything here. They improved the facilities, they added onto Lambeau Field several times (attendance will be 80,000 soon when it was 60,000 Before Favre), they became marketing savvy, they retained coaches and they fired coaches when needed. But it was all possible because of Favre and Reggie White (and Bob Harlan and Wolf, of course).
Picking who is your favorite Green Bay QB is like picking your favorite son. Starr most likely couldn't throw near as far or as well as Favre or Rodgers, but he didn't have to. The Packers needed a leader then who didn't turn the ball over and was accurate in big games. He did it and is still revered here. I mean REVERED. Favre almost single-handedly won games for the Packers (and lost a lot of them) and was such a big personality that some fans stopped being Packer fans when he left. They chose Favre over the Packers.
As Tom said, look at Brett's numbers from his three MVP seasons of 1995, '96 and '97. They are amazing. He was amazing. He had the strongest arm I ever saw, but he also made more dumb decisions in his good years than Rodgers will ever make in his career. Rodgers is playing better than any QB I've ever seen and that includes Favre during his MVP run.
I love Rodgers right now. I still love Favre and Starr. Rodgers has improved so much in four years it's amazing. He really is a smart, smart guy who watches so much film that he's prepared for every situation. At the end of his career, Favre started watching film and became a much smarter QB as well. I think the sky is the limit for Rodgers and I just love the way he handles himself and plays on the field and leads this team. We are so lucky to have a superstar like this who really loves and appreciates the Packers' history, organization and their fans. He's one of us here in Cheeseland.
I love them all, but you are right it's tough to say anyone is better than Rodgers in 2011. What a special season he's had, MVP for sure. And yet, Drew Brees may set even more NFL records this year and is the same type of icon in New Orleans that Rodgers is here. Great for football and all of their fans.

Greg and Tom...any thoughts on that? Other than the fact that Rodgers is a good role model, almost nothing in this statement is fact at all. By comparing Rodgers to Favre or Starr is absolutely obsurd at this point in his career. Let him accomplish more than a couple of good seasons before putting him in that category. Rodgers isnt even top 20 all time yet, let alone top 10. Many QB's have had good seasons or a good couple years. He was put in a winning system and is doing extremely well. What Favre and Starr did absolutely changed the game of football. As far as his religious beliefs, I am not sure where you are going with that, but I just dont get why so many people are bothered by the fact that Tebow "gives credit" to God. Its very sad that people get offended by someone who is unselfish and diverts the attention he is getting to his teammates and God. No one said he is in the ballpark of what Rodgers is doing, but once again, why does Tebow even have to be referred to in a commentary about Rodgers? And you wonder why Tebow's popularity is so high. He praises God.. SO WHAT? Why does that offend you?

Who says that offends me? Maybe you should stick to saying what you think rather than presuming to tell me what I think.
Yes, I prefer the way Rodgers carries himself. And yes, I believe that Rodgers will prove to be the greatest Packer QB of all time. Those are my opinions, and I'm entitled to express them whether you agree with them or not.
Unless that offends you, in which case we'll try not to do that any more.

Unless that offends you, in which case we'll try not to do that any more. Its obvious what you think and I am expressing my opinion of the Tebow bashers (whether you are one or not) and people who criticize someones right to express themselves. You have the right to have an opinion. It obviously offends you, otherwise why would you bring it up in a commentary about Aaron Rodgers? Whatever, life goes way beyond football. I have 3 boys and would like them to grow up with role models who are able to express their beliefs openly and honestly, with humility, without the fear of being ridiculed, rather than have the superstar, selfish mentality that they are their own God. You have your opinion, I have mine. All I did was ask you why it offended you. If it doesn't, then my bad. Remember this began by you saying that Rodgers is better than Bart Starr and much better than Brett Favre. You lost your credibility from the start. Rodgers has had a great "start" to his career.... He is a great QB. Brett Favre and Bart Starr (I saw him play) are legends. When Rodgers wins 5 chamionships or plays in 297 straight games, or gets remotely close to those feats, maybe there is a comparison...
