Week 1 Thoughts

I'll try to post this a little earlier in the week if people are still interested but here are some random thoughts I had after watching Week 1:

Dear Brett Favre - I know hanging out in dorm rooms isn't your thing but training camp does have value. If you don't believe me, go back and watch the film against the Saints. Your friend, Tom.

Dear Percy Harvin - please do not be this year's Eddie Royal. My top fantasy team couldn't stomach having a WR3 bust in back-to-back seasons.

Miles Austin is a stud. Nuff said.

I can't figure out why a team with RBs like DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart would spend so much time in multi-receiver sets and placing the game in the hands of a bad QB. Maybe John Fox can answer that one for me.

I think Wes Welker is back.

I liked Arian Foster a lot heading into the season but that was nothing short of sick.

Oh, and how many people would have predicted the Texans would beat the Colts with Matt Schaub throwing for fewer than 110 yards?

Speaking of the Colts, it's one thing to have a suspect defense. They've had that before. But I don't recall the last time I saw Peyton Manning under so much pressure.

There may not be a more enjoyable site in all of football than watching Chris Johnson bust off a long TD run. The cool thing is tends to happen a lot. Well, it's cool if you're a Johnson owner.

I think Matt Ryan was locked onto Roddy White just a bit.

It's hard to blame the Jets' defense for the Week 1 loss given how inept their offense was but at some point they needed to make a big play in the second half to win the game and they never made one. Instead, Joe Flacco tore them apart pretty much whenever he wanted.

If anyone was wondering why the Ravens wanted Anquan Boldin you found out loud and clear.

It sucked to be a Ray Rice, Andre Johnson, Michael Turner, Randy Moss and Aaron Rodgers owner Week 1 but better weeks are coming for all of them.

Well maybe not Moss this week. He'll be stuck on Revis Island.

Then again, am I the only one who thinks the Jets should put Revis on Wes Welker and try and thwart Moss with double teams?

Think the Rams trust Sam Bradford's ability to keep them in a game with his arm?

I'm not sure the Bucs have their answer at quarterback but I'm convinced they found a potential star receiver in Mike Williams.

With three major injuries in 11 starts I think we can safely call Matthew Stafford brittle.

And finally, yes that was a touchdown catch by Calvin Johnson. Sorry Lions fans. You got jobbed.

that game will get ugly 38-24 final. austin puts up 125 yards and 2 td's in three quarters when score will be 38-10

Mike Martz is the truth. If he can get Mike Furrey to put up 98/1100/6 and Roy Williams to go 82/1310/7 and have Kevin Jones put up 200+ fantasy points....with Jon Kitna at QB....

Well, let's just say those that drafted Cutler, Forte, Knox, and Aromashadu are going to be very happy.

I think Roddy White might be the start of the week though (not for me alas)

Two comments on that Tom.

I agree completely with your take on DeAngelo and Stewart in Carolina. IMO I think mixing up some wildcat with those two could bring a lot to that offense. I think that if Ronnie and Ricky can do pretty good at it, why not these two younger, quicker guys.

On the Moss, Welker, Revis matchup this weekend. I got a feeling both Welker and Moss are going to blow up against the Jets D, not to say against Revis only, but Cromartie and Wilson looked rough on MNF.
