Labor Day weekend is going to be a sellout for the Bellagio, so it was tough to get a really good rate there. Here's what we have for both weekends under the Fanball group rate:
There is a limited NFFC room block at an incredibly low price of $111.75 Sept. 1-2 and $239 Sept. 3-4. Call 888-987-6667 and ask for the "Fanball Group," but HURRY! Room rates on Sept. 9 are $143.20 and for Sept. 10-14 they are $207.20.
I had a great talk with our Bellagio reps last week and they said things are really picking up for them as far as conventions. There aren't many on those September weekends, but they said the first quarter of 2011 is off the charts. Let's hope the economy turns around for Vegas and everyone else.
See ya in Las Vegas in a few months.

UGH!!!! I could have had much better rates 6 weeks ago from the internet, but I waited because I thought the rates would be like those in baseball. So, for the first weekend I'm going to be spending $600 on a hotel alone! OY!!!!! Add on event fees and food...not a happy camper this Monday morning.

Yeah, I thought we'd get better rates too, but apparently they are selling out. If you can find anything online that's better, definitely take it. Sorry.

Try Monte Carlo (next door ) 3 nts for $400.
Also: Planet Hollwood & Paris are very reasonable.
All 3 are very close to Bellagio. (Paris & Planet Hollywood are directly across the street.Monte Carlo is next door).

[/QUOTE]Part of the allure of the NFFC is the communal experience. It was fantastic staying at the Bellagio for the NFBC, top rate all the way. You folks really won me over that weekend as far as the Fanball buyout. As a NFFC-er I'm feeling like the red headed step child!

But I have a feeling next March won't be as kind, just like Labor Day is heating up. From what they are telling me, Vegas is making a slight comeback. But as Cal said, there are cheaper rooms nearby.
We enjoyed having the red-headed step child for dinner with Rich Gannon that last Saturday night!!
That was a lot of fun. Sometimes we look like a dysfunctional family, but we love all of our kids!!
Thanks Jules and hopefully you'll find the right price here or nearby.

The majority of folks I spoke with in the NFBC could care less that they drafted at the Bellagio and actually, some were not too happy. Add in room rates in excess of $200 and wow!!!
The best high stakes event I have drafted in live was at The South Point. I know, this coming for the woman whose fave Vegas hotels are THEhotel, Green Valley Ranch & The Bellagio, seems like a crazy statement.
I thought I read that Fanball was trying to grow their live events. $239 hotel rates is not the way to do it. And absolutely, we are free to stay wherever we want in Vegas and other cities, but I will say again, part of the allure (for me) of drafting live is staying in the host hotel. I love being able to take an elevator down and within minutes be at the draft tables (as was the case with the NFBC). I love running into other owners in the lobby, the sportsbook, the casino floor or restaurants. I love not having to pay cab fare to get to my draft, etc.
So, if the Bellagio won't offer Fanball/NFFC better rates and we (customers) now have to pay an events fee to cover the costs associated with drafting at The Bellagio, why are we there?
I get an events fee is likely anywhere, but at the NFBC I heard how much it cost for a bag a chips and what the minimums were for food & drink. Ouch.
Loved, loved, loved the NFBC experience at The Bellagio the first weekend. But, that was with reasonable room rates and no events fee (because of an early bird special).

Jules,
I have talked about the same point for years. I think people competing in high stakes fantasy events (baseball or football) are hard core fantasy sports enthusiasts who are there for the SPORT DRAFT EXPERIENCE. I am way more interested in the rush of entertainment I get in the 4th round as the player I am targeting is falling to me than I am in the trendy bar I can hang out in afterwards in midtown or on the Vegas strip.
I, in the past, have talked about the logic of getting the draft out of midtown Manhattan (where a cheeseburger is $16 at Applebees) and moving it to some other setting in the Tri-state area at half the price. In theory, this should result in better prize funds because less money has to be sucked away by the expense of where the event is conducted (unless I am wrong and the NYC Sheridan charges the same as anywhere else to host). It would result in expenses cut significantly by NFFC competitors who get robbed on hotels and parking. If someone wants to go sight seeing in NYC they can do it on their own after the draft. If they want to get robbed for $20 trendy drinks they can do it after the draft.
The same goes for Las Vegas. Maybe I am a bad example given the fact I have been to Vegas 45 times in the last 15 years so I am not in awe of the strip or anything that goes on there. But I would MUCH prefer drafting at South Point (they have a great bowling center for the record) or The Orleans, or Sams Town if it meant more reasonable room rates and less expense to the NFFC/fanball that results in better prize funds for the people who are funding the entire operation with entry fees.
Am I nuts?

You could be near trackside for about 1/2 the cost.
