Handling FAAB Bids During Bye Weeks In 2011

I'm interested in getting some feedback from our veteran NFFC owners about the FAAB process during bye weeks. As we learned last year, the NFL wants to feature more games on the NFL Network and thus the Thursday night games started even before Thanksgiving last year. That is likely going to be the case again this year, which means that four of our 12 FAAB bidding periods have been moved up to Wednesday from Friday.

The NFFC has always just moved up the FAAB deadline two days for those final four weeks of the regular season, but I'm wondering if it isn't time to change that procedure. Would you be in favor of:

a) Leaving this setup alone with four early Wednesday deadlines
b) Having Wednesday and Friday FAAB deadlines during those weeks
c) Leaving the Friday FAAB periods alone and not have an early Wednesday FAAB deadline

I'm interested in your feedback before I post all of the rules for 2011. Thanks all.

Greg,

I hope that you consider just having one FAAB period of Friday's this year. There is so little information on Wednesday that it leaves us making so many guesses. I fully realize we have the problem of the one game on thursday but to me that's not as bad as having incomplete information for all of the games.

Wayne Me, too!

Having just one bidding period on Friday would be my preference.

Thank you,
Mark

Add my vote for one bid on Friday.

I don't mind the Wednesday bids, but what I would mind is having two bid periods in any one week.

The problem with doing it only on Friday is that if your kicker gets hurt on Sunday and his team plays on Thursday, then you have no chance to replace him. Carrying two kickers seems to be a steep price to avoid this situation, especially in 14-team leagues.

My preference would be to keep things as is: Wednesday bids during the short weeks. I could live with Friday only, but it's not ideal. I would absolutely hate having bid periods on BOTH Wednesday and Friday of the same week.

This is a real tuff situation. Thinking about this the "ideal" solution would be FAAB on Wednesday for the 2 teams playing Thursday and another for Friday for the rest. Lock 30 teams for the Wednesday FAAB and lock the two who played Thursday for the Friday FAAB. An example of a situation that can arises with just a Friday pickup is lets say Sunday Vick goes down and the Eagles play Thursday. Kolb can be a 25 point guy and late in the season missing out on the pickup can mean a lot of money for somebody. I don"t think you can"t have a shot to better your team in the second half of the season. I am not for two full FAABs. If you cant do both with the lock I think you have to stick with Wednesday.

[/QUOTE]Uhm...what?

If your kicker gets hurt on Sunday, and his team plays just 4 days later on the following Thursday, there is no Friday between the two games.

Truthfully, I can live with it either way. I think a lot of people like the way it sounds and the convenience of just having it every Friday and being done with it...until THEY are the ones who aren't able to fill a roster gap because teams will be playing two consecutive games without an intervening FAAB period.

But I can tell you this, Greg. This set of circumstances could easily occur during the season, and people will be on these boards HOWLING about how unfair it is and how they've been "screwed". Then it turns into a 10 page flaming thread, similar to when a game was expectantly canceled by weather a couple of years ago and people were left without the opportunity to pick up fill-in players. Play that scenario in your mind a little bit before making a final decision.

In this high stakes contest, where people spend thousands of dollars to enter and then literally tens of thousands of dollars are at stake, emotions run high and I don't think you want to be in a position where someone has no opportunity to respond to an injury.

Can you leave your kicker on your bench for the Thursday game, then pick up a different kicker Friday (who plays Sunday) and plug that kicker into your lineup?

Last year I went from 9 leagues that I managed up to 17 and the time spent doing waivers is incredible. It's honestly the only part of fantasy football that I don't like. (Only because it takes so much time.) It is so difficult to do it by Wednesday anyways but if I had to do it 2 times a week I would probably just not play. If I only played in one league or so it might not be a problem but it's all I can do to handle waivers once a week.

Anyways, I'm glad to hear that others feel as I do and like the idea of only having waivers on Friday.
