Proposed Changes For 2005 NFFC

I put these proposed changes on another thread, but I thought it would make the most sense to centralize my thoughts here. Please provide feedback if you have thoughts on any of these:

We are going to try to implement one change on Draft Day and see if it can work at each site. We want the entire draft room open for the Welcome Receptions and just before the start of the draft, but we are hopeful that we can set up the room so that five minutes before the drafts start we will pull the folding walls up the middle to separate the draft room in half. Cutting off the sound of draft picks side-by-side will make it easier for each league to concentrate on their drafts and hopefully won't cause any confusion. When the drafts are over, we'll open the rooms back up for everyone to look over the boards.

We are also looking into implementing this for baseball, although I can't guarantee it yet for all three cities. We have tentative space reserved for both events in all three cities, but the floor layouts could change depending on the number of teams we get in each city. But we heard the complaints about noise from other drafts and can easily address this with a partition down the middle in each city.

I also have a plan in place which would allow us to increase the league prizes in 2005 while keeping the overall prize structure in place, guaranteeing the $100,000 grand prize. Which would you prefer, without debating what constitutes first place and second place (leave that for another debate):

League Prizes for 2005:
1st: $5,000
2nd: $2,500
3rd: $700

or:
1st: $5,000
2nd: $2,200
3rd: $1,000

Here is one more proposed rule change for 2005:

Playoff teams will take their weekly scoring average times two into the playoff round and combine that total with scores from Weeks 14, 15 and 16 to determine the overall champion. Teams in the Consolation Bowl would also take their weekly scoring average times two into the post-season and combine that total with scores from Weeks 14, 15 and 16.

This is still a small consolation to the consistent regular season finishers, but I think it does give a better advantage to those teams heading into the playoffs.

Okay, another proposal, first suggested by GG:

Any team that finished in the top 10% of all teams in total points scored that didn't make the playoffs through the leagues would earn a wild card spot into the playoff round.

I know I'm going to do this one, but I thought I'd ask for permission first! :D

I am still going into 2005 with the idea of rewarding first place to the h2h champion and second place to the total points champion. I will poll all NFFC members at season's end to see if this is the format they want or if there is strong support for a three-week playoff between those two "champions." I'll listen to the members and act accordingly, but for now this is the format I am going with.

I'm also sticking with:
1) 14-team leagues
2) 18-man rosters
3) same starting rosters
4) no change to Flex position
5) no scoring changes
6) no draft slot bidding for 2005

I'm open to suggestions on rules changes and anything else that will make the NFFC better in 2005, and some of the ideas presented this year may be implemented in the future as the NFFC becomes more established. But to grow this event beyond where we are now, I think the format we have in place makes the most sense.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

Greg, if I may suggest, it may be wise to start a separate Forum section titled "DSB" for the dozens of threads by 'you know who' on this topic in the future months and possibly years.

Greg, let me take these in order:

(1) Draft Day change - like it, but you know what I would prefer!
(2) Prize structure - the first one
(3) Playoff structure - keep the same. There are some of us who draft with the 3 playoff weeks in mind. Obviously we don't know how the season will shake out but I drafted Edge just for that reason.
(4) Top 10% to Championship - like it

Now, let me start the H2H vs. Total Points argument up again. As stated in another thread, I would like to see the deciding factor between the H2H winner and the Total Points winner be the power rankings. One team is going to get 14 points for finishing first while the other team is going to get 14 points for most points. The big decider is going to be all-play which some of you out there proposed instead of H2H. Now if the two teams are tied in the power rankings, then have your playoffs in Weeks 14-16 whether it be one game or three games. That way, you don't have teams trying to match wits with one team to win the $5K while taking on 20-60 teams in the championship.

I think I have combined everyone's ideas into one really good one. I'm sure whichever ideas don't get included in the NFFC will be included in one of the satellite leagues for testing!

greg...

-i love the idea of seperating the drafts. i think it can get loud and confusing when you can plainly hear other drafts going on. it also might "highlight" a player during the draft and someone will pick him simply because he was reminded of him by listening to the other draft...

-i pick the 1st option for league prizes

-i like the playoff structure just the way it is... i think giving teams an extra bonus for season long total points might be a bit unfair because some drafts end up easier to build strong teams then others...

-i like the roster size, and the lineup... i like the scoring system, though maybe i would give full points for RB receptions since WR's who have big games always seem to outscore RB's who have big games... i like the 18 man roster as it does leave the chance for some talent on free agent wire...

my biggest concern going forward is making it possible for teams to win $ from within their own controlled leagues while still having a shot at a huge magical prize at the end... maybe smaller weekly prizes for high weekly score within leagues giving teams who had bad luck or poor starts to the season something to shoot for later in the season each week...

Renman, I agree with you on the RB situation. A full point for each reception would even things up between the RB's and WR's...And it would eliminate the 2,340 posts regarding which position is more viable in the NFFC...

1. I'm playing next year, regardless
2. I STRONGLY disagree with giving the H2H champ priority in league cash. Equality is one thing, but screwing the poor slob who had an unlucky schedule but scored more points seems wrong.
3. I would vote for 3rd place to be as low as reasonable, so put me down for the $700 version.
4. Quieting down the rooms during the draft sounds great ;)
