Question Of The Week: Who Will Be The Top Rookie?

Okay, this week's discussion topic: Which rookie do you think will provide the most fantasy value this year?

It's an interesting rookie class since not a single wide receiver went in the first round. The running backs are in a good position to excel this year, but which one could emerge as the best one? So the question is, for the spot you will draft a rookie this year, which one will produce the most value for you?

Let's see some thoughts and have fun with this thread. Thanks all.

Jonathan Stewart. I think he will show his talents during training camp and earn the Stephen Davis role.

John Fox is on the hot seat this year so he needs to play his best players. He knows what he has in DeAngelo Williams. He will try to let his new star shine IMO.

I AM GOING TO SAY KEVIN SMITH. THE ONLY REASON IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO ONE ELSE.

TRUE TATUM BELL CAN WIN THE JOB AT CAMP AND THAT MAY HAPPEN BUT IF SMITH GETS THE NOD FROM OPENING DAY THEN HE WILL BE THE BEST FANTASY WISE.

NOT BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST OF THE ROOKIE CLASS BUT HIS SITUATION IS THE BEST.

Stewart's a possiblility, but he's going to share a lot of carries with DeAngelo.

Smith has a chance in Detroit, Oline needs a lot of help there.

I like Darren McFAdden's raw ability to breakout and be the best by the end of the year. Fargas might start for the Raiders initially but he always gets hurt and that leaves it wide open for DMC with all his speed to bust loose. Plus I think the Raiders will have to run a lot with basically a rookie QB this year,

Matt Forte is also worthy of mention, but is the Bears rushing attack failure all Benson's fault or is it also the O line and scheme ? Plus serious issues at QB and the overall passing game.

I agree that Jonathon Stewart shows the most fantasy promise but I also think there is a shot that Joe Flacco emerges as the starter in BAL and will be available in the free agent pool, providing a decent fantasy boost those teams who waited out the QB run.

Matt Forte will have every chance to make the most out of his rookie season. I see him as getting the most carries of any rookie RB in 2008. What he does with those carries is anybody's guess. Chicago's passing game must be respectable, not flashy, but respectable for Forte to do his thing.

My absolute longshot for best fantasy rookie in 2008. Devone Bess-WR-(Dolphins). This kid has hands like glue and knows how to run routes like a veteran. If you're in a DC league, you'd make a big mistake if he went undrafted. I see Miami making this kid work his butt off and become a good part of the passing game. His stats should increase each week, as the season goes on.

Lots of interesting choices thus far. That's exactly what this year's class provides: Lots of options and not all of them will pay off for the spots they go at. I think there will be more Dwayne Bowe picks -- guys who go much later and become surprises -- than Adrian Peterson stars from the Class of 2008.

This is a tough question to assess before Training Camp has even started.
Right now I'd "guess" Matt Forte. He really doesn't have any competition and should get the bulk of the touches if Chicago doesn't bring in a vet. If they bring in someone like Jordan or KJ then I'd probably lean towards Stewart or K Smith. Again that assumes Detroit doesn't sign a vet. It's clear Tatum Bell is garbage so Smith should get lots of opportunities based on Detroit's current crop of RB's. Then of course with Wacky Mikey, Torain may emerge in TC in the Broncos backfield. Young appears to be the current RB du jour there; but a couple fumbles or blown assignments and he could be 4th on the depth chart come Sept.
But based on the current situations I'd go Forte, Stewart, Smith then DMC.

The Lumpy Value System (LVS) says:

Rookie QB - Flacco will be the best of the rookies this year, but that will amount to nothing in the fantasy world

Rookie RB - Mendenhall

Rookie WR - Doucet

Rookie TE - Keller will be the best of the rookies this year, but that will amount to nothing in the fantasy world

Rookie PK - None
