MidSeason League B Results

Taking Culpepper first was a tough decision. As of right now, he is the top NFFC player, averaging around 35 pts a week, while Priest has only been averaging 21 pts a week. Culpepper has already had his bye week, but is probably a bigger injury risk. So my decision to pick him first was solely based on the belief that he will accumulate more points over the 12 weeks we play in the mid-season league, if he remains healthy. Manning and McNabb are not far behind him in average points per week, but neither have had their bye week yet. And Culpepper has the easier schedule remaining of those 3.

My question is this: Was taking Culpepper 1st the wrong pick? I'll admit it did leave me a little weak at RB, with Henry, S Davis, Stecker, Lee, and Morris...but the rest of the team turned out decent. WR's D Jackson, J Smith, C Conway, I Hilliard, C Chambers, Hakim...TE's E Johnson and C Lewis....K Janikowski...D Bills and Panthers. I spent a large chunk of the FA money to pick first...so getting several players who already have had their bye weeks was a huge bonus (Culpepper, Henry, Davis, Jackson, Lee, Panthers, Bills). Lineup requirements for this league are a little different!! QB..RB..WR..WR..WR..2 FLEX (RB,WR,TE)..TE..K..D

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? I didn't want to bring this up earlier, but I saw this a "potentially" a problem with evaluating these "bid" drafts at the end of the season. Of course, this would not occur if we drafted before the season.

It is still very well worth the effort, but the final opionions need to be tempered just a tad at season's end.
Jules is a Dirt bag and makes my luck.

Any thoughts? Funny, lizard, I had the same strategy in lge A, but gambled that Daunte would fall to 4th (lucky for me you weren't in lge A) - which gave me higher picks on the way back (Fred Taylor and Roy Williams vs your T Henry and D Jackson).

With the top RBs not really separating from the pack, except for C-Mart which is probably scheduling, I liked the Culpepper play. Same could be said for R Moss.

I also thought that no bye week, no need to swap QB on matchup, and thus no need for a backup other than Frerotte was a roster advantage which allowed more depth at RB (Taylor, Bennett, Stecker, Blaylock, McGahee, L Jordan) and two TE's (McMichael, Heap).

[/QUOTE]I would think the amount bid for slots would be much lower for a pre-season, rather than a mid-season draft, because: a) bye weeks, b) more weeks to bid for FA, and c) less unknowns (fewer quality FA's available) for the mid-season after seeing four wks of games.

I would have loved to have Culpepper on my team, but I'm not sure I'd use the #1 on him, nor would I spend a lot of FAAB to pick a QB 1st.

I too drank from the early QB kool-aid. I took Manning in the 2nd. So I have Manning (30.4 avg) and T. Jones (21.5) for a total of 51.5 from the 11 slot for QB/RB.

You have Culpepper (35.7) and Henry (9.9) for a total of 45.6 for QB/RB.

Of course past performance is no guarantee of future results, but we don't have much else to judge by.

There is a large drop-off after the top 3 QBs so in a 1 RB league I think taking a top 3 QB has some merit. In this case the later slot provided an advantage. I went RB/QB then took 4 WRs in a row.

Word from Greg...

The roster requirement for league B is wrong as posted on the site and it will be corrected tomorrow (Thursday) which is also the target for entering the rosters.

I was planning on taking Culpepper at #6 in League A but he went at #4 as mentioned above.

I just hope passing on Randy Moss and taking Peyton Manning (Bye Week 6) and his 30 points/game average will not come back to bite me in the end.
Uber Wizdom / Chicago League #3 / Pick #8
Chicago MickeyWhippers / NFFC Mid-Season A / Pick #6
