Do you think it's possible to be in the running for the money without taking a RB in the first 2 rounds? I'm looking at all of these mock drafts(all RB first 2 rounds) and wondering what would happen if I took Culpepper and Moss(or Harrison or Owens) 1 and 2 in the draft. Do you think you can get by with sleeper RB's?

Maybe. But I'd think you'd have to have at least one running back in the first two rounds. Running backs are pretty steady for the most part. Wide Recievers are a wild card. They have to have a QB who will throw them the ball. When its a running play everyone knows who gets the ball. when its a pass it could be any of four or five options.

Find the RB value later in the draft.

1. Figure out the Denver RB winner or
2. Predict that early injury and get a solid backup (e.g. Martin/Jordan) or
3. Predict who will get suspended or sent to jail (e.g. Ricky Williams, Jamal Lewis) or
4. Find the 2004 Moe Williams (who might be Moe Williams) or
5. Draft Eddie George and watch him get 1300 yards and 12 TDs

If you draft a qb and wr in the first two rounds you will quickly find yourself outta of the Javits and on a boat to Staten Island....possibly a free ride home via EMT Ambulance....just a little hello to you and to say I am here and it ain't even August yet...DIESEL.....

Well - I happen to agree with Jersey Paul (funny since I'm from Jersey too). I think the key to taking a QB and WR with the first 2 picks is getting the "right" wr/qb to start with and then getting a little lucky with the RB's. You can easily get lucky. There will be guys there who can put up big years. After round 2 many teams will look for their WR's and QB's while you get to pick the RB's that remain available. You can certainly do worse than Moss and Culpepper with your first 2 picks. Look at all the RB "busts" in rounds 1 and 2 last year.

I agree with Walla Walla. Our league winner last year drafted Priest Holmes in the first, Randy Moss in the second, and Tory Holt in the third. He grabbed McNair in the fifth and never looked back. You can get a solid back in the first and still get your qb and wr in the second and third.

Is it possible? Yes, but in a 14-team league, it would be VERY tough to pull it off. I do have some experience with this subject, as I personally drafted in this manner in the inaugural WCOFF. But, keep-in-mind the WCOFF are 12-team leagues; not 14-team leagues, such as NFFC is.

Our scenario in WCOFF 1 was VERY similar to what you described, Diesel. I believe we picked either 6th or 7th and our 1st 4 picks went Moss, Culpepper, Portis, J Lewis.

We absolutely stole Portis in the 3rd Rd (he was a rookie and the Den RB was unclear to most people. Most people greatly undervalued him) and Lewis was also great value in the 4th Rd (he was coming off his 2nd major knee injury in the prior season, and again he was very much undervalued by our competition).

How did we do with this strategy? Not good enough. We got off to an 0-4 start and ended up 6-5 and obviously didn't qualify for the play-off round. We really came on at the end, but in a short 11-week season, an 0-4 hole is very tough to climb out of. We did have a good shot at winning the "Giveaway Bracket" prize, as we were in 2nd place in that bracket by .7 pts going into the final Wk 16.

Well, to summarize this, I would say I would maybe try it again in a 12-team or less league. But, in a 14-team league, I believe you have to get at least 1 RB in the 1st two rds, and therefore I don't think it would be wise to go with that strategy.
