Official ruling of Arizona's 1st TD Week 5???
Official ruling of Arizona's 1st TD Week 5???
Has anybody seen an official ruling on the first Arizona TD week 5 vs St Louis? All of the box scores list it as a 0 yard fumble recovery by Reggie Wells. The NFL network had said it was reviewed in the booth and called an Edgerrin James touchdown. ESPN.com's play by play calls it a 6 yard James touchdown (although their boxscore says Wells fumble recovery). I am curious what the official ruling was on this play and if the replay booth ruled it a James TD, can that be changed later? Below is description that NFL.com lists regarding this play.
James scored on a 5-yard run, lunging with the ball in one hand and fumbling into the end zone after apparently getting stopped short. Officials first ruled Cardinals lineman Reggie Wells recovered a fumble in the end zone, wresting it from St. Louis cornerback Jonathan Wade.
Rams coach Scott Linehan challenged the play, which was later reversed to a James touchdown. Referee Gerry Austin told a pool reporter that a subsequent replay angle showed that James' elbow was down before the ball came out and that play should have resumed with a third-and-goal from 1.

HEY LATHAM. I WAS WATCHING NFL NETWORK AND INITALLY THEY GAVE IT TO JAMES ON THEIR FANTASY TICKER. HOWEVER AFTER HALFTIME IT WAS TAKEN AWAY. SO FAR AS I KNOW I THINK IT IS A REGGIE WELLS FUMBLE RECOVERY.

Official ruling of Arizona's 1st TD Week 5???
I'm fairly sure it was a James fumble and a Wells recovery in the endzone.
The challenge was to see if the Rams player was down by contact, thus a touchback...but the reply upheld that the Rams player never had possession, and thus it was a Wells TD.
The challenge was upheld...not overturned.
None of this is official...just what I believe after reading many sites. The NFL.com play-by-play seems to me to be the most accurate.

This would be an interesting one to get solved by tomorrow, as I know 6 points credit to James might swing a result of a game or two.

Official ruling of Arizona's 1st TD Week 5???
I have asked STATS to give me the official ruling on this and we'll obviously watch this before tomorrow's scoring deadline. You would certainly hope the NFL would make this decision final before the end of the week, wouldn't you? I mean, can we all watch the tape a few times and come to a conclusion?? Thanks for posting this.

From STATS: As of now, the NFL is still listing it as a fumble recovery by Wells.
